My Summary
About Me
Motivated and with fifteen years of experience in childcare. I just started to resume my career after a 5 years break I took to raise my own daughter. I am a native french and have been living in the UK since 2006. I am fully fluent in both languages (English and French) and I am also learning some Italian at the moment.
I live in South East London (in Forest Hill) with my husband and daughter who has started primary school in September hence my possible return to work.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sciences of Language (applied linguistics) and therefore I am able to offer french language tutoring as well as usual nanny tasks.
I have been working with children of different age (from birth to the age of 15). My favourite years are the early years (0-5) because their are so many achievements. This is harder work but this is also so rewarding to see the little ones progress.
Not only I have good knowledge of the EYFS when working with children under 5; but I am also confident assisting older children with their homework and school projects. I have a didactic nature and love sharing my knowledge and culture with the children I am looking after. I have a nurturing way with children and always encourage their natural ability to absorb and stay interested and use what they learn to build their confidence.
I like stimulating children's brains with educational activities and games adapted to their developmental needs. For example, when playing with building blocks I stimulate their problem solving, when using playdough they experiment touching different textures and building their fingers muscles, when singing and listening to/playing music they learn about controlling volume and listen carefully, when reading a book they can learn how to recognise symbols and letters and use imagination to predict the end of the story, etc.
I especially love art and craft because it is such a rich activity and can relate to every subjects and can be used to illustrate so many different things. Any age groups enjoy it as well.
Another one of my favourite activities is cooking and I encourage the children to participate as it makes them practice their numeracy skills in a fun way.
I always try to take children out to the park/ playground/ museums/ or even just for a walk, whenever the weather is good enough for that, because I think being in many different types of environment is how they discover the world and they always see more interesting things and have more fun. I also organise playdates because it is important for them to learn how to socialise.
I always make sure children have healthy meals and snacks. As I already mentioned, I enjoy cooking and am used to homemade rather than processed food.
I consider myself being fairly strict but not too strict, as I believe it is important for children to learn how to respect rules but also important to give them the freedom they need to learn. I give rewards when they do well and I also always make sure I explain them why it's important to not misbehave if they do.
I like using a diary as a link between parents and me where I write what I do with the children during the time I look after them and where you can write me messages/instructions. I find this is a good communication tool between parents and me.
If there are other things you would like to know about me and the way I work, feel free to ask.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
My Experience
I have been looking after children for over 10 years, I first have been an au pair for 3 years and then became a live-out nanny. I have been working for several families and looked after children from 0 to 15y.o. I have very good references.
In my last position, I looked after a 3yo boy and a 6yo girl. I worked for this family for 4 years so the children were then 7 and 10 when I left them to go on maternity leave. Then I chose to take a break to be a stay at home mum for 5 years (which I still count as childcare experience) and now my daughter started school I am resuming my career.
My Qualifications
I have completed a HND in Corporate Communications, then I graduated in applied linguistics (I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences of Language and Communication). I am very interested in speech developpement and passionate about language acquisition. I have mostly been working for multilingual families so was able to help, using my knowledge and skills to encourage the children speak a second language.
I have also completed a course in Safeguarding children (PCD certified)
I have a paediatric first aid certificate and also an enhanced DBS check.
My Availability
I am seeking a permanent, full time, live out position (Ideally 40hrs per week 9am to 5pm, as my daughter will be looked after from 8am to 6pm).
