My name is Apophia.
I grew up in a nuclear family of eleven—two parents and nine siblings. I'm the sixth of nine children, and after losing one parent, I took on a responsibility for caring for my younger siblings from a young age of 10. That experience shaped who I am today: patient, nurturing, and caring towards others. Additionally, during my high school and university education, I stayed with my older sibling, who had children, and frequently took care of my nieces and nephews.
I completed my elementary, high school, and university education earning a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. I then spent five years working in community development and social work, supporting programmes focused on health and empowerment for young people. This work deepened my passion for caring for communities and supporting others, especially children, the marginalised, and young people.
I later moved to the UK to pursue a master’s degree. Alongside my studies, I worked as a nanny, helping my manager by picking up her children in the morning and evening, taking them to and from school, and staying with them for a few hours and preparing meals for them until she returned from work. This enabled me to build a multitude of skills, including time management, understanding child development, paying attention to detail and children's body language, organisational skills, and caring for and nurturing children to make them feel at home and loved.
I currently live in Croydon with my cousin, and I help care for her two young children, including picking them up from school, cooking for them, washing and ironing their clothes, feeding and bathing them, and supporting them with their homework and school assignments. This has been a natural and rewarding part of my daily life, and it's given me hands-on, everyday experience with children's routines, needs, and wellbeing.
Looking ahead, I am excited about the opportunity to bring my caring nature, reliability, and experience—both from my upbringing and my current role supporting my cousin's children—into a nannying role where I can continue making a meaningful difference in children's lives.
My Experience
Growing up with one parent, I started childcare at a younger age of 10, and some of the responsibilities I carried, especially during school holidays, included bringing food for my younger siblings, showering them, and choosing clothes to wear for them. I carried on these responsibilities for most of my life until the age of 18.
During my form six vacation in 2015–2016, I was hired by Good Foundation School, Kigali-Rwanda, as a teaching assistant to Nursery 1 (baby class), handling children aged 2–4 years old. My responsibilities included picking children up from their homes to bring them to school, helping them with schoolwork, particularly writing, collecting breakfast and lunch for the kids from the kitchen and ensuring each one of them had eaten, toileting them, cleaning them after eating, dropping them back home, and supporting the main class teacher with general day-to-day teaching duties. Moreover, at the time, I was staying with an older sibling who had two children, aged 5 and 7, whom I would also take care of whenever I went back home after work, and even over the weekends (similar responsibilities as mentioned above). Although I stopped teaching when I enrolled in university, I continued to take care of my sister's children, especially during holidays, throughout all three years of my university education.
Currently, I take care of my cousin's two children (a 12-year-old and a 5-year-old). My responsibilities include bathing and dressing them, preparing their light meals and feeding them at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, washing and ironing their clothes, picking them up from school, and preparing and setting them for bed. I also take them to the park for games or to the pool for swimming, especially over the weekends. I have nurtured good manners in them and instilled the importance of good hygiene, and I make memories with them through working together, playing games, and storytelling. Through this experience, I have seen firsthand how reliable, attentive childcare gives parents real peace of mind and more time to focus on their own work and personal lives —something I look forward to continuing to provide in a nannying/babysitting role.

I am flexible and very avialble through out weekends and weekdays and during most times of the day.

- Babysitting from £12.00 per hour
