About Me

Hi Parents,

I have been a Nanny to 6 families. I have worked with children ranging from birth to 13 years.

I am a fun, friendly person who enjoys going for walks, spending time with friends and family and baking !

As a nanny I enjoy encouraging children to grow into their own character and use play and age appropriate activities to do this.
I enjoy getting the children being creative, active and interesting places, baking and lots more! I think it is important for children to access the local community.
I enjoy the flexibility that being a nanny can offer and although I take my job very seriously, I enjoy becoming part of the family.

I am a member of the PVG Scheme and hold a HNC in Healthcare. I have studied learning disability nursing at Edinburgh Napier. I am currently studying Childrens Studies with the Open University. I do hold a full clean uk driving licence, however I do not have a vehicle at present.

I can provide details of two previous families as references.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Skills

I previously worked for HGS, a global outsourcing company, as a Customer Advisor. My main duties include dealing with inbound calls for a client, answering customer queries and dealing with complaints. This requires a sound knowledge of the information necessary to answer customer concerns and a good telephone manner. This role has improved my literacy with IT. I also work for a nursing agency as a healthcare assistant. The majority of my experience has come from studying Learning Disability Nursing at Edinburgh Napier University where I studied until the start of the third trimester in second year. I left University due to personal reasons.

From passing first year I gained a HNC in healthcare. Whilst at university I was on various placements ranging from 3-6 months at a time. I learned to settle in quickly and was able to establish professional relationships with both staff and patients.

I spent 6 months at the Robert Fergusson Unit, Scottish Neurobehavioral Rehabilitation Unit. Whilst there I worked with patients who suffered from Acquired Brain Injuries. These patients displayed very challenging behaviour. As such my communication and interpersonal skills were tested and improved whilst there. The RFU was a very demanding work place, and I was required to work to the NMC code of conduct and local policies and procedures for NHS Lothian. At times it could be a very emotional environment, but I managed to deal with this effectively and professionally.
Whilst on placement I worked under the supervision of a Staff Nurse and sought help when needed. Team work played a big part in working effectively and efficiently and I feel I can work well as part of a team. However, I also had to work using my own initiative and carried out tasks independently when required. I furthered my ability to provide a high standard of personal care, as well as my ability to empathise with patients and their relatives. A high standard of computer literacy was essential for compiling patient notes and care plans, as well as referrals to other members of the multidisciplinary team.
I have worked with a few families providing care to their children. I integrate well into the family home and provide nurturing care. I source different activities and groups for children in the local community. I have previously paid for these activities out of my own pocket. I enjoy watching children grow and become their own person. I encourage children to be outside as much as possible. I like to engage children in educational play. I encourage children to express their individuality through play and crafts.
Personally, I feel I work best from reflective practice, preferring to use Gibbs model of reflection. This was a large part of university practice, but I continue to use it in everyday life. I have completed various training courses in order to be able to work safely and efficiently in my working environment. Some of these include control and restraint, manual handling, infection control and other in house training provided by university and my different placements. All of my certificated training was done through NHS Lothian, but this is now out of date. However, I am a member of the PVG Scheme.

Hobbies and Interests
In my spare time I enjoy Rugby, both participating and refereeing, although this has taken a back seat for the time being due to an injury. I now regularly go swimming and walking instead.
I am also deeply passionate about animals. I foster a dog from Westie Rescue Scheme and I love horses. In the summer months I follow most Border Common Ridings, assisting friends with riding preparations such as tacking up and grooming. I enjoy being around horses and feel there is no greater bond than that between a horse and rider.
I am also a member of the Selkirk Amateur Operatic Society in October 2013. Recently, I have been cast as Anna Leonowens in the production of The King And I. Playing the lead role has allowed me to come out of my shell more and become more confident. I have a passion for the expressive arts and enjoy entertaining people. My love of pleasing people and the teamwork and co-ordination required whilst performing in the opera are skills I believe will benefit me in the workplace.
I feel I have the attitude and the adaptability to become a valued member of any team.

Nicole has been helping out with my newborn baby from the age of 7 weeks. She has been fantastic - hands-on, takes initiative and has loads of good tips and tricks. She has been a great help to me as a first-time mother and someone who doesn't have family around. I feel comfortable knowing my daughter is in safe hands with her. I work from home and Nicole has been helping out with everything from feeding, changing and bathing her, to assisting with household chores and errands, and ensuring my daughter's room is clean and her clothes are washed and organised. Additionally, she has a very kind and calm demeanour. I would highly recommend her.

Nicole was great with my 2 children. We needed some cover during the day because our childminder was on holiday and I still had work. Nicole spent 2 days with my 2 kids (3 & 5) and she was very good with them. She helped with pickups and drops of to my son's school and daughter's nursery and got my daughter lunch sorted. I was able to relax and get on with my work knowing that Nicole had it all in hand.
