Hi my name is Nicola (Nicky) and I have been a Woodingdean based (Crescent Drive North) OFSTED childminder( OFSTED REGISTRATION NUMBER ref EY287165) since 2004.
I am a member of Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years PACEY (formerly the National Childminding Association).
I am very experienced with children of all ages and I provide a "home from home" for the children in my care.
My home, in Woodingdean, near Brighton, is safe, comfortable and child friendly,
I have a play room which I use for childminding, filled with lots of lovely toys and resources and great things to do.
I take the children on regular outings and have a big, secure and safe garden for them to play in.
I operate a waiting list should you wish to be placed on it for future spaces/start dates.
I have SEN and MAKATON 1 and 2 training.
I accept various employer VOUCHERS xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
. I also accept funded children.
As stated I am a member of the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years - PACEY
I have been registered as a childminder since July 2004
I have extensive newborn/baby experience both from childminding and my own children. I provide school holiday care. I work all year round but also provide term time only .
I have passed all Ofsted Inspections, I HAVE HAD MY OFSTED INSPECTION - RATING GOOD - SEPTEMBER 2018 -(copy of report available). I have completed Paediatric First Aid and I have completed the Cache Level 3 Certificate in Childminding Practice.
I work within the Early Years Foundation Stage.
We have 1 cat Ava , together with Barney our gentle border terrier .Barney has undertaken Kennel Club puppy obedience training. We also now have our cuddly west highland terrier called Phoebea and a goldfish called Oreo!. All of the children in my care and their parents love the fact that I have pets for the children to socialise with. Should your child NOT like dogs or cats, my pets can be kept separate from them.My garden is a clean, secure and safe environment.
I have been registered as a childminder since July 2004, Since my registration I have had continuous work caring for baby's from new born and toddlers usually up to 4 years of age in most cases also caring for their brothers or sisters. I also provide school holiday cover (private and state school holidays) for all ages.
I have an extensive portfolio containing my qualifications, courses attended, references, CRB/DBS documentation, etc
For all children that I care for within the Early Years Foundation stage, I keep daily journals which parents/carers can read whenever they want, together with WOW Moments folders. These detail developmental miles stones and are also shared with parents/carers. They are lovely keepsakes when children move on to full time nursery or school and are a great way of showing nurseries and schools what children have achieved and are able to do.
I provide lots of out door play and have a playroom purely for my childminding which opens onto a large, secure garden with out door toys and equipment.
I have attended Special Educational Needs training and speech therapy training (Recognising and supporting speech, language and communication difficulties from birth to 3 years).
As I continually strive to provide a varied and stimulating environment at my setting, I regularly collect feedback from my parents/carers which also enables me to incorporate their ideas etc into my day to day activities and planning.
I am a member of PACEY (formerly the National Childminding Association (NCMA). I have PACEY public liability insurance.
I aim to provide a varied learning environment and resources which enable children within my setting to feel safe in a safe and secure environment, stimulated and to help them to thrive. My setting aims to help children to be healthy, safe, enjoy themselves and to achieve their goals whilst making a positive contribution within the EYFS frame work.
I aim to help the children to keep themselves safe by use of established excellent safety routines and my Health and Safety policy. This policy covers safeguarding children, as does my Child Protection policy. All children in my care, including toddlers, learn how to behave safely in the garden. My close support protects the children while they master skills and develop awareness of their own abilities. I aim to help the children enjoy a healthy lifestyle, and help them to benefit from a well arranged environment that enables them to spend a lot of time outside. By providing a clean and welcoming environment, I aim to enable them to learn the importance of good personal hygiene routines, to minimise the risk of cross infection. By doing all of this, I aim to keep the children safe and healthy.
At my setting, examples of good practice are identified and used as a model for others. I actively collect input/feedback from the parents/carers of the children attending my setting and find it a valuable tool for improvement. I believe a strong childminder – parent/carer partnership, based on information sharing, is a great support for children within my setting.
I am to provide a caring, relaxed, well arranged, equality of opportunity environment which enables individual children to learn and develop and where their ideas and input are valued, encouraged and appreciated. This, I believe, lays down a secure foundation for future learning at nursery and school.
I am sensitive to children’s individual development and I provide activities that are tailored to meet and support their individual needs and capabilities, including any special educational needs or disabilities. These follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and philosophy of learning through play, together with age appropriate boundaries, house rules and daily routines which flow with each child’s needs.
I have passed all Ofsted Inspections,(copy of recent inspection report available rating GOOD I have completed Paediatric First Aid for the Early Years Setting which is renewed every 3 years, I also have a level 2 certificate in Paediatric first aid. I have up to date Safeguarding Children training.

Below are the latest reviews for Nicola Carroll. Please note that reviews represent the subjective opinions of other Childcare.co.uk users and not of Childcare.co.uk. Parents must carry out their own checks and references on childcare providers to ensure that they are completely happy before enaging in the use of their services.
Our daughter has been attending Nicola's setting 2 days a week for over a year, since she was around 16 months old. She settled in very quickly and absolutely loves going, and we love hearing her chat about the things she's done on the days she attends.
Nicola is fantastic with the children and receptive to their individual needs. The kids at the setting play nicely together and Nicola arranges a variety of different fun and education activities for them all to get involved with, as well as regular outings. They also have plenty of opportunity to get out in the fresh air and run around in a safe environment.
Nicola keeps parents very well informed of what the children have been doing at the setting as well as observations on their development. She also provides the children with things like activity sheets that they can do at home with you, and regularly lends out books and play packs that are relevant to the children's development (for example, when we started potty training, she provided us with a book and some toys to help our daughter understand about using the potty).
Nicola's policies for her setting are clear and sensible, costs are transparent and she is very helpful to parents. I'd absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a home childcare setting.
