I am passionate about ensuring the best outcomes for children and families I work for. Mindfully supporting them in a nurturing environment. I have encouraged and enabled families through developmental milestones such as weaning, potty training, starting school and home schooling.

Child Development

While the above jobs all have similar duties with the common denominator being to care for children, my experience and role has been diverse. Working on the Supply List for East Ayrshire Council as an Early Years Worker I was required to be flexible and adaptable in a variety of Nursery settings. I have learnt the importance of establishing and building good relationships with staff and quickly developing a good rapport with children. To date my experience has been working in Early Childhood Centres, catering for children from eight weeks to five years old; all of the children in the eight weeks to three years old age range have been referred by Social Work. I have gained significant experience working with and implementing Birth to Three, Curriculum for Excellence, Child at the Centre, Solihull Approach and Nurture Approach. As a Key worker I am disciplined in ensuring paperwork is up to date and responsible for my own group’s portfolios, individual plans, observations, evaluations, tracking, transition and ELATS. I have extensive experience creating partnerships with parents, from liaising with them daily, to Parent Workshops.

In my role as a Nanny, I was responsible for the care and nurture of up to four children at a time; caring for them in their home environment; I supported them in reaching developmental milestones and was spontaneous in day to day activities.
In Australia I broadened my experience as Team Leader of the baby room and toddler room, I thrived on this role and my confidence grew.

In New Zealand I worked in a small Nursery of twenty one children, aged eight weeks to five years old. Hargest Nursery was open plan enabling all children to engage and interact with each other in the same area, whilst here I worked with the Te Whariki – The early childhood curriculum.

TEFL. (Teaching English as a foreign language)

While teaching English as a foreign language at Herriot Watt University, Edinburgh and St James Institute, Spain during summer camps it was my role to prepare and deliver lessons to a variety of ages, levels and abilities. It was my focus to make the lessons for the children interesting and fun.

Education

August 2005- January 2007, NC and HNC Early Education and Childcare, Kilmarnock College.

My studies at Kilmarnock College consisted of three days theory in the class room environment and two days practical in various placements. Whilst in my HNC year I had to carry out a graded unit, researching and implementing a strategy that would build on children’s self-esteem and confidence within Early Years. I implemented Drama into the schools planning, which was a success. Other key modules that were covered within this course were Child development, Play, Theoretical approaches to development and learning, working with children and young people with additional support needs and First aid training.

Eilidh was so so lovely and took her time to get to know our 4-5 month old baby; on our request, we had a few trial runs before the day we wanted Eilidh to look after our baby for several hours and they all went very well. All the time Eilidh was attentive and open to suggestions, asking questions and understanding when our plans changed slightly. On the day, we felt completely comfortable leaving our baby with Eilidh. We would thoroughly recommend Eilidh to anyone with young and very young children.
