I am Rachel, an outstanding Ofsted registered childminder based in Stoke, Plymouth and have 2 children of my own (now 11 and 13). I provide a homely environment with a secure enclosed garden. I encourage plenty of outdoor play from bug hunting and pick your own fruit to jumping in puddles!
I venture out daily with the children, often meeting with other Childminders. We attend a variety of groups including preschool French and Phonics sessions as well as taking full advantage of parks and the local area from Wembury Beach to Plym Woods. We have also been regular visitors at our local residential and nursing home which was extremely beneficial for both children and residents.
I provide a combination of messy play, craft, natural resources and anything else the children express interest in! Additionally, playing the piano, flute and guitar enables me to introduce children to a variety of fun musical activities.
Valuing the importance of knowing your child is safe and happy I produce a daily diary for parents to view plenty of photos of their children in action!
In addition to being a mum of two I have been childminding since 2010 and was graded OUTSTANDING by Ofsted in my 2015 inspection. Prior to becoming a childminder I worked in a professional position for an engineering consultancy and, as such, completely relate to the pressures of combining work and childcare.
I have completed a BA degree in Early Years Education with the Open University. This has had a hugely positive impact on the activities I provide and my role in supporting play. I am always looking for ways to improve my knowledge and am currently undertaking a course in children’s mental health.
Having gained accreditation with the Trio Childminding Network I receive regular support from an Early Years Advisory teacher.
I have a great support network through regularly meeting with local childminders on a daily basis.

Our son has been attending the setting at Berkeley Childminding now for almost 4 years and we're still so pleased with our choice.
When we started looking for childcare, we wanted a home from home feel and somewhere that would offer him a range of activities including lots of outdoor exploration. Our expectations have been completely fulfilled, not only has he benefitted from trips to local parks, beaches and tourist attractions (zoo , aquarium, national trust properties) but the level of early years education that he has received has been outstanding, which is reflected in the latest Ofsted report.
In addition to the time spent exploring , he also attends regular phonics and french classes each week, which he really enjoys.
His reading, writing and numeracy are at an excellent level for starting school in September , as are his social skills due to the lovely friendships he has made during his time here.
I'm so pleased that we picked a smaller, more intimate setting over a nursery environment, as I believe it has benefitted him so much and i always felt reassured when leaving him to go to work. The setting is homely and nurturing and communication when necessary during the day, has been fantastic. Receiving a random picture of him enjoying himself was sometimes just what I needed!
Every child has an in depth 'Learning Journey' kept, to documentate their development in each key area, which also contains lots of photos and pieces of art etc that they have produced, which apart from being necessary for educational requirements, is invaluable as a reflection on those precious early years.
I honestly can't recommend this provider enough, absolutely superb!
We are so pleased we found Rachel. She is a brilliant childminder and is currently looking after both of our children. Her house is a home from home and Rachel makes sure to take the children out somewhere different every day. She has been very flexible in supporting our needs and has recently started looking after our younger child too. I love hearing about what our children get up with their friends at Rachel's house!
Rachel has looked after our twins since they were 10 months old and they have thrived whilst they have been in her care in every way. She provides a warm and nurturing environment and they simply love going to her home and interacting with her family and pets. It was really important to me that my children spent a lot of time outside and were engaged in learning that was led by them. Rachel ensures this happens and it is clear to me that they shine as individuals in her eyes. Feedback is excellent and I always have a really clear picture of what is happening for them whilst they’re with her. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
Rachel is a fantastic childminder. She has been caring for my youngest for several years and also providing after school care for my oldest. Both children love the setting, the atmosphere and all of the great activities that are provided on a daily basis. It is only the fact that we are moving that we are no longer taking advantage of her services.
Her communication is excellent, her written documentation is second to none and you get a great pictoral summary of the month which is a lovely tool for prompting dicsussions with the kids. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
My Son has been in Rachel's care for 18months and I could not recommend her enough. We initially viewed a variety of childcare providers but upon meeting Rachel our mind was made up.
She offers a safe and practical learning environment within her home and our son has come on leaps and bounds whilst in her care. The children are not confined to the indoors either, Rachel regularly takes them on adventures to the local parks, aquarium and even pennywell farm!
Rachel is keen to involve the children in numerous activities pushing them to explore different things and keeps the parents updated with a diary which the children bring home. I think this is a fabulous touch as it means we are kept up to date with what our son has been up to.
Rachel is an excellent childminder and is highly recommended. If I have any more children I would not hesitate a second in placing them with Rachel.
