About Me

OFSTED GRADED 'Good'.

My name is Lisa Barnett, known as Thelittlebarnowls child minding service, I am a married 49 year old mother of 3 boys - 21, 19 & 15years.

EEF (Previously NEF) & CHILDCARE VOUCHERS WELCOME - Funded places. for 2, 3 & 4 year olds 15 & 30 hours funding and tax free child care

After volunteering in a local primary and during my time studying the 'Childcare Diploma Early Years' qualification, I decided I wanted to work with younger children (EYFS). With this in mind and being able to plan my own learning activities, I decided to become a child minder.
I am a nature play based early years setting, where little ones learn through play in a lovely caring home environment.
I live in a detached property in Hemsby Way, Westbury Park, I have converted my conservatory for childminding and I have a dining room (adjoining the conservatory) which I use as a creative (drawing, painting, play dough, seasonal creative activities, birthdays, valentines, celebrations) area, I also use this space for lunch and snack time.

There are 2 toilets in the property, I use the down stairs toilet for childminding, offering privacy for minded children. This allows me to support toilet and potty training as agreed with parents.

My back garden is flat with a locked gate entrance, and is fenced, offering a secure area. I have outdoor climbing equipment for under 4's, a feature loved by the children.

I regularly (weather permitting) visit, Brampton Park, Longton Park, Trentham Gardens and attend 'Parent & Toddler' Groups. This is important for children's social and emotional development skills.

Living on Westbury Park I also have the added benefit of going to 'Bunny Hill' for nature walks and den building with the children, where possible I try to engage with all the seasons of the year, this is a fantastic experience for children.

I plan weekly activities with themes, topics and festivals. For example; mini beasts, winter into spring. With regard to 'Growth' the children have sown vegetable seeds for 'Tomatoes', 'Strawberry's', 'Runner Beans' and our regular activity of planting 'Sunflowers'.

I provide parents with a 'Learning Journal' which shows your child's learning and development, photos and observations linked to EYFS Development matters.

I also provide a 'Daily Diary' which highlights care routines for example; sleep times, lunch, snacks, nappy change and daily activity.

I look forward to having the opportunity to care for your child.
I have recently updated my playroom and have changed my Early years setting into a HYGGE inspired curriculum following WANDERLUST a child's nature study.

My Experience

In January 2014 I successfully passed a 'Diploma' in 'Children's Care and Young Peoples Workforce' Newcastle under Lyme College.

In 2011 I passed an 'NVQ II' in 'Children's Learning and Development'.

Prior to attaining my qualifications (and my motivation for child-minding EYFS) I volunteered at a local primary school in the Clayton area.

I have experience of nurturing and developing children from 'Reception' to 'Nursery', in total 10 years.

I believe I have a clear and structured understanding of the 'EYFS' planning and learning development to support your child's needs. I also gained experience working in a private nursery from birth to preschool.

Both my older children went to a nursery setting. When I had Bella I was lucky enough to have 15 months off work with her so when it came to looking for childcare I was torn. My sister urged me to try a childminder and I wish I had made this move earlier. The setting is so inviting and spacious and although it is part of Lisa's home it is clearly segregated, although all the family make the children feel welcome.

The setting is interactive and engaging. Lisa sets themes for each term with each week being a different topic and she adapts the setting to match these. Lisa has amazing knowledge and an imaginative mind which she brings to life with the children. They go to play groups, on nature walks and days out which tie in the topic of the week.

Bella has thrived in Lisa's care so much so that my sister believes she is more advanced than her son who is in reception with her communication, writing and development. Bella has developed impeccable manners and thought for others, she has been taught to share and involve everyone.

Lisa's communication is faultless, she informs us of all the necessities and also the topic for the week and ways to bring this into our home life. Bella often asks us to take pictures to send to Lisa to show her she's still learning.

Lisa has been absolutely tremendous throughout the Pandemic and I felt Bella was in extremely safe hands when in her care.

Lisa's care feels really personal and it made me feel so much better returning to work knowing she would be enjoying herself. When Bella leaves in the summer I will be distraught as the one on one care she receives with Lisa is amazing. I hope the next intake Lisa takes on has as much fun as Bella has with her time with Lisa.

My 2 girls are minded by Lisa. Before starting school, my youngest stayed with Lisa for 3 full days. Lisa is a wonderful childminder, she has a wealth of knowledge and experience of the early years. The activities she plans for the children are engaging and exciting; with great opportunities for exploration, physical, emotional and communication development. As a primary school teacher, this was really important for me. Once both my children were attending school, we decided to continue their morning and after school care with Lisa. Both girls really enjoy spending time with Lisa, her home environment is very welcoming as is Lisa herself. Nothing is too much trouble as she has accommodated last minute changes for ourselves with childcare which has been an amazing help.
