About Me

My name is Carole. I have been a childminder for 19 years, working from my home in Burnside. Before then I was a qualified teacher, teaching Maths at a secondary school in Newcastle upon Tyne.
I aim to give a professional, reliable and quality childminding service; providing the children in my care with a supervised environment that is safe, warm and centred to their needs; and offering appropriate and varied experiences that support the development of the children in my care.
I am Registered with the Care Inspectorate, formerly called Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (SCSWIS). I am a member of the Scottish Childminding Association and the Childminders Group in Rutherglen.
I live with my husband and my sons who has just graduated from University. We live in a non-smoking household and we have no pets.

My Experience

I have been a childminder for 19 years, caring for children from 6 months through to when they start primary school. As well as being a qualified teacher, I have achieved SVQ level 3 in Early Years Care and Education. Through my membership of the Scottish Childminding Association, I have attended continuing professional development workshops on a variety of subjects, including:
Child Protection Training; Anaphylaxis/Epilepsy Awareness
Beginners British Sign Language ; Asthma Awareness
Meningitis in the under fives ; Positive behaviour management
I also hold a Certificate in Paediatric First Aid and an Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate.

My Qualifications

I am registered as a childminder with the Care Inspectorate. My most recent inspection was completed in April 2018 and I was graded 6 - Excellent for Quality of Care and Support; 5 - Very Good for Quality of Environment and 5 - Very Good for Quality of Management and Leadership.

I also hold the following qualifications:
Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Newcastle University)
Diploma in Education (Newcastle University)
BSc Mathematics and Computing (Glasgow University)
Post graduate Diploma in Accounting (Glasgow University)
SVQ level 3 - Early Years Care and Education (City & Guilds)
Modern Apprenticeship Level III - Early Years Care and Education (Sector Skills Alliance Scotland)

My Availability

My service is available on weekdays between 7.30am and 6pm.
Due to children I care for progressing to primary school, I currently have vacancies from August 2019 for children under 5 and not attending school.

I have aimed to make my home a suitable, safe and secure environment for childminding. The following areas are available for children in my care:
- Play room - for painting and craft activities with access to a range of toys, games, books and TV/DVD
- Kitchen area - for home baking
- Reception room - playing on Nintendo Wii, quiet times, rest and sleep
- Rear garden - a secure area [all exterior entrances are locked], landscaped to provide a safe play area for children.
I also take children to a variety of activities away from my home, including soft-play, parks and museums.

My Fees

  • Childminding from £5.00 per hour

Fees would be discussed as part of the process of determining your needs from the childminding service. Average fees are in the region of £38 per day, and £22 for out of school care.
I do not charge for bank holidays or for time when I am on holiday. I am happy to consider term-time only arrangements for the children of teachers (with no fees for school holidays).
The exact nature of the care service provided is matter for negotiation and agreement. Parents have the opportunity to define the following elements of the service:
- Arrangements for pick up and collection from Nursery or Primary School.
- Hours / days for child care
- Provision of meals (breakfast, lunch and snacks). Menus and parental preferences are discussed and adhered to where possible, but special dietary requirements have to be met by the parent.
- Attendance at local play/toddlers’ groups.
- Outings and other activities.
