I am an Ofsted registered childminder and I live with my 2 children (16 and 10) and 2 cats. My last Ofsted Inspection was in January 2015. I was awarded an overall Good grade. Please message me for details on how to read my report
I have been awarded the Hertfordshire Quality Standards Award and the Early Years Quality standards award. I am also able to offer government funded places to eligible 2, 3 and 4 year olds.
I have a degree in environmental science and am a very outdoorsy person. I like to take children on outings to local parks, on nature trails, walks and to zoo’s and farms. In addition to this I plan outings to Museums and the library. I also attend childminding groups every week to provide opportunities for socialising and to encourage creativity and communication. I also run a local Rhyme time group on Wednesday mornings. My weekly routine, as well as including these activities, will combine periods of free play (children choosing what they play with) with structured activities (such as cooking, craft, roleplay, construction and singing and music) and quiet times (sharing a book, having a nap if needed). I also plan after school activities for the older children including trips out, art and craft and cooking. All activities are planned so that all the children, whatever age, can be included at their own level and their development and progress can be recorded and encouraged. All records are then shared with parents with photos and pictures so you can see what your child does in my care and we can share their achievements and developmental milestones, working together to make sure children are happy and confident. Meals and snack times are a very social time in our family and I always eat with the children as I believe it sets a good example and helps to develop good manners and conversation. I also like children to try different foods and will encourage them by involving them in making the food and finding out more about that food. Children are encouraged to eat lots of fruit and vegetables.
I was a previously a primary school teacher and have 13 years experience working with children, 4 in teaching and 9 in childminding.
I have a Post Graduate certificate of Education, specialising in Early Years.
And have completed the following courses: Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, Safeguarding Children, Observation, Assessment and Planning, Risk Assessment, An introduction to Baby signing and Unit 1 of the Diploma in Homebased childcare and Every Child A Talker and Wellcome.
