About Me

Do you require reliable, quality ,small group care for your child, but can`t stretch to the cost of a private nanny ? Do you want a homely environment for your child with a variety of children to interact with ,and learn from ?
We provide a `family` learning environment (maximum of 6 children under5,) within a large welcoming, former Park Keepers house in St.George, with pleasant shady gardens to play in, and direct access to the park., A playroom.set up daily with your childs interests in mind and with space to explore.A wide variety of additional daily trips/visits and activities.
An environment where your child has the opportunity to explore personal interests and develop talents with the support and encouragement of caring adults. Where plenty of 1:1 attention is a reality, and where positive character traits are fostered and encouraged. We believe that we are all unique ,with personal gifts and talents . Though we follow the EYFS we ensure that individuality in all its forms is allowed to flourish.Where questioning of the status quo is encouraged and an enquiring mind is always supported.

Babies grow quickly, and our provision encourages little ones to explore, both inside and outside.Use of a treasure basket and heuristic play encourages small babies to explore using all their senses. They are included fully in experiencing life , and join in all trips and activities at a level to suit their ability, with sensitive support and encouragement where needed.

Our provision offers a well rounded early years experience for your child, where care is consistantly provided by the same 2 adults .Individual planing and reports , unique to your childs needs/ development ,are shared with parents, and we always have time to discuss your childs progress or any concerns.

School readiness skills are a high priority in the 3-5 age group, with self help, confidence, concentration, a love of learning ,especially books, and positive relationships also fostered as children grow
Early reading , writing, exploration , maths and problem solving skills are encouraged through play, 1:1 and small groupwork, which gradually builds upon their present knowledge and understanding to ensure sound skills in all areas as children move from our under 5's provision into school. Individual learning plans ensure every child builds upon previous steps, regardless of age, gender, social position or natural ability, in order that all children may reach their potential ,and even stretch beyond what is considered possible .

We encourage positive behaviour, enriching relationships, good manners, high expectations, and a love for life beyond the tv/ screens. We aim to spend time interacting with every child. Our provision reflects our desire to allow every child the opportunity to explore a quality, fun, adventurous and, well supported childhood.

My Experience

I am a qualified N.N.E.B nanny, having trained at Clifton nursery nurses college in the 1980`s I worked as a residential sole charge nanny for 2 families, one with boy/ girl twins, aged 2 yrs., the other a 16yr. old child with complex care needs. I headed up a room for 2-4 year olds at a council nursery in a deprived area of Bristol ,before working from home as a registered childminder.I have a total of 38 years continuous work experience with 0-11 year olds and particular skills with the under 5`s.

Both myself and my husband Paul have experience of being young single parents over several years , having had our individual children; the joys of teenagers, stepchildren, and 1 chinese and 5 korean foster children aged 8-15yrs., ,and therefore understand the pressures and pleasures of parenting . We are highly skilled in providing a varied program of fun and learning to include all stages of development and individual giftings.

I love to engage younger children through trips , activities and play opportunities wihin a homely, small group setting, and believe that under 5`s thrive best within a consistant ` family ' based environment where every childs skills and their inate individual potenial is encouraged and honed with skillful targeted support.

I love to teach early phonic/ reading skills, and problem solving/ maths through every day experiences and 1:1 support to under 5`s.I enjoy offering
interesting topics to further your childs knowledge, which have included the fishmongers, the fruit and veg shop, all about me, growth in plants and animals, patterns in nature and the built environment. In the past we have had a live feed from abird box to the playroom so children could observe nest building, egg laying and chick development We have explored mud play by constructing an outside covered mud kitchen to experiment with mud and water leaves, sticks and flowers. We have a large outside playhouse with home corner nature books and dressing up role play opportunities. The outside space also offers a secure fenced outdoor decked area, directly accessed from the playroom for children to have constant in /out access throughout the day. Ride ons and other wheeled vehicals are also available.
Daily morning and afternoon trips and visits include pre school gym session at Bristol Hawks gym, Grimsbury farm visit, whole day trip to Noahs Ark, library visit, local woods throughout the seasons, play parks, community visits to extend and consolidate learning.

I have experience with both gifted and special needs children, and have successfully tutored both english and korean nationals aged 10 and 11 for independent school entrance exams . I believe that with the right holistic support ,all children can excel in their individual gifting. We focus on the positive, while encouraging resiliance and perseverence in areas of difficulty.

.We believe every child is an individual, responding to a variety of learning styles, and aim to offer a daily curriculum tailored to work on each childs strengths and weaknesses, to ensure an holistic approach that encourages a fully rounded individual who thrives in their particular areas of interest. Children who attend our provision regularly far exceed learning goals set by the government, and regularly amaze us with their intellect, imagination skills and character. Our recent Ofsted inspection in July 2023 noted this .

I work with my husband,Paul who retrained as a childcare practitioner in 2000, after a career in engineering. He holds a D.C.E childcare qualification obtained in 2000 a D.O.E gold award, and has run youth groups, undertaken mountain leader training, and headed up D.O.E groups. He loves the outdoors, nature and adventure, making and designing things, cooking with the children ,and organising games. He also leads our Forest school experience .

Working together, and seperately we are able to offer a wide variety of quality targeted learning experiences ,with positive adult role modeling to groups/ individual children.

My son has been looked after by Sarah and Paul one day a week since he was a baby, and three days a week since he was 11 months (he is now 20 months) and is positively thriving in their care.

I love the environment that Sarah and Paul have created. It is welcoming and friendly and they seem to know how to bring out the best in all of the different children.

Six children feels like the perfect number and the fact that they are a range of ages means that they seem to be constantly learning from each other. It is lovely to watch how they interact and their relationships develop.

The consistency of having the same two caregivers and same children being there every day makes it a secure and dependable place for the children to be. This dependability means that the children are able to encounter all of the different activities they participate in (and there are many), with confidence.

They seem to have struck the perfect balance between routine and predictability on the one hand, with new experiences, adventure, and taking the children out of their comfort zone, on the other.

Having the same children also means that Sarah and Paul really know the children well and can tailor things to suit their different personalities.

For my son their house is like 'a home from home'. This means that when he went there for an overnight stay he wasn't the least bit fazed.

Sarah and Paul clearly love what they do and have years of experience on which to draw. I would highly recommend them.
