Structured learning and childcare in Newquay
Kneehigh's main room is a moderate size and is presented in such a way that it gives a reception class atmosphere, to prepare your child for the school environment. Our indoor and outdoor free flow learning environment includes activities for all children such as:- painting, sand, water, book corner, gluing, collage/junk, jigsaws, board games, various pre-writing skills, construction, playdoh, clay, role play, small world play, threading, matching, singing, dancing, story time, drama, problem solving, rhyme time, cooking and use of ipads. Children can choose activities throughout the day.
We promote play as the most appropriate way for under fives to learn. The key categories listed above are incorporated into the activities that we undertake. Every child has an equal opportunity and is encouraged to take part in each of the daily activities, so that over a period of time, their experience is continued and they can be seen to be making progress.
Our curriculum has been designed so that each of the children has an equal opportunity to learn, to the best of their abilities, within the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS). See Curriculum policy. We use these to plan our Short Term Curriculum which includes differentiated activities for all children’s different phases of development.
Whenever your child comes to Kneehigh he/she will see the same friendly faces, thus creating a stable environment, helping your child to settle more easily. It is also reassuring for you, knowing that there is not going to be any one caring for your child that you do not know. With this in mind we have incorporated a key person system which offers each family support and care from one of the members of staff, who is also responsible for your child's development file and Learning Journey.
Kneehigh Nursery has specific learning objectives
At Kneehigh Nursery we have specific aims to prepare your child for school. With all our learning activites we consider knowledge, skills, concepts, ideas and attitudes. With our curriculum we aim to:
1) To encourage your child to be polite, considerate, ask questions, be as independent as they can be and be ready to attend school when the time comes.
2) To be able to write their own name and more if possible.
3) To recognise and hopefully write the numbers up to five.
4) To know all the colours and most shapes.
Kneehigh Nursey has 26 places in each session for any children aged 2 to 5 years. Of these 26, a minimum of 4 places will be full day places. The amount of Full day places available each session will be reviewed at least three times a year.

My 3 year old daughter goes to this nursery and absolutely loves it. I can't fault the nursery or staff at all. She loves everyone who works there as they are so friendly and competent. The nursery staff are so helpful and polite and can't do enough to help us, her parents, either whether it be with advice, tips and pointers or just praise and communicating how well our daughter is doing etc. Highly recommend this nursery!
My son goes to this nursery, it's great. There are so many toys, the staff is really friendly and knowledgeable. There is always new activities that reflect the various holidays, birthdays and events. The food is healthy and there is lots of outdoors play.
