About Me

My name is Sally, I live in the rural outskirts of the historic town of Faversham and I have been working with children since the age of 18, both within the education sector and in private households. I have written various policies and procedures and I am Paediatric First-Aid trained to help ensure the safety of the children I work with. I am a happy, bubbly and a very patient person who feels that the most important things about working with children is to ensure that they are safe, healthy and happy. I am more than happy to discuss any questions you may have.

Having lived in the countryside for most of my life, I am not afraid of a bit of hard work, a bit of mud and mess that so often comes with working with children and being in the great outdoors. I think it is important for children to see the world around them and learn about the things they see daily, like where their food comes from and how we can support our local environment.

I think it is important for children to experience as many different activities and opportunities as possible to help them to develop a sense of who they are and what they enjoy. I am very creative and spend much of my free time making and baking things from birthday cards and hand lotions to cakes and sewing. I try to use my creativity as much as I can within my day to day work to encourage the children’s creativity, aid their sensory development and build skills that will help them throughout their lives.

I also enjoy reading and have a passion for learning. I think that a good education is important but may only be achievable if children find learning enjoyable: I feel that by sharing stories, knowledge and learning together we give children a good foundation for their interests and knowledge to grow. As education is such a huge part of childhood, to allow children to reach their full potential and become happy, confident and well-rounded individuals, it is crucial that they enjoy their time at nursey or school and that they are fully supported at home.

My Experience

In my current role as a Personal Assistant/ Office Manager to the Managing Director of an aviation company, I have enhanced my organisational and communication skills. I regularly arranged business trips and had frequent contact with both our UK and international customers and suppliers. This role is coming to an end due to my wish to return to the childcare sector.

As a Live in Nanny for a lone parent family based in Fletching, Sussex, I cared for two children ages 8 and 10 who had recently lost their mother. I provided care before and after school, longer days during school holidays and overnight whilst the children’s father was travelling both within the UK and abroad. I prepared nutritious meals and encouraged the children to engage in food preparation, they particularly enjoyed baking. The children had very active social lives so I arranged frequent playdate and sleepovers, I also ensured that they were on-time and prepared for their extracurricular activities including horse-riding and hockey.

I was employed as a Live in Nanny/Housekeeper in Wandsworth, London. I care for two girls aged 5 and 7 years at the start of my employment. I ensured the girls were happy and healthy, prepared balanced meals and ensured they were prepared for school, including supervising homework and music practice. During school holidays I planned outings and educational trips, I also planned playdates and have accompanied the girls on trips to their grandparents in Norfolk. My employers were both in the armed forces, due to this I provided overnight care on many occasions including whilst both parents were out of the country and for periods of up to a week. During the first 20 months of my employment the girls' father was stationed in Wiltshire, the girls and I would spend time there during the school holidays, so flexibility has been very important within my role.

I have had much experience throughout my life with both looked after children and, children and adults with disabilities and special educational needs including helping my mother and grandfather to care for my adopted uncle, who has an acquired brain injury, leaving him completely dependent on others, and my fostered aunt who has cerebral palsy, both are wheelchair users.

I have a younger brother, aged 21, who suffered a stroke as a baby and is suspected to have a form of muscular dystrophy, he has had surgery to try and correct a leg length discrepancy,he also has hypermobility. He has hypersensitive hearing and presents as auditory defensive, he also has an auditory processing disorder.

I have supported a child with a statement for behaviour in a reception class, transitioning into the year 1 class at Hernhill C of E Primary School. I also have had experience with children with autism, auditory processing disorder, auditory defensive reactions, sensory hypersensitivity, communication difficulties and children with hearing impairments who use a radio aid at Eastling Primary School. Where I supported the children in the year 1 and 2 class and the year 3 and 4 class, also helping the children with this transition. Some of my time spent at Eastling School was voluntary after the completion of my apprenticeship and I try to help out whenever I get a chance.

I Nannied a girl aged 3 (now age 9), on many occasions since the age of about 6 months and cared for her between once and four times a week, normally for 9 hours at a time and providing a nutritious lunch and dinner whilst her mother attends college or work. I still occasionally care for her and her younger brother aged 4.

I have also worked part time as an administration assistant/warranty assistant at Horsepower UK Ltd where I have created their Health and Safety policy, their Fire Procedure and Policy and their COSHH Folder and Policy, these tasks have including carrying out risk assessments and organising equipment tests and training. I also have experience of data protection.
