My name is Jayne and I am married with four grown up children of my own who have now flown the nest. My ethos in terms of child care is that a child thrives best when in a caring and stable environment .This should provide safety balanced with opportunities to develop social skills by mixing with other children under the supervision of appropriately trained and attentive adults. I have honed these ideas whilst working as a professional and OFSTED registered childminder for the past 10 years from my home in North London where I am currently assisted by two full time and one part time registered workers. The house, located in the Whitehall Park Conservation Area is large (five bedrooms) with two dedicated and well equipped rooms downstairs for younger children (0 - 4) and another also well equipped room on the first floor the older children (4 plus). The space allows for children to sleep or nap in their own cots with their own sleeping bags and as sleep and routine is something that is so important To little ones ,this makes for a very reassuring and consistent environment .It has a pretty, safe and well resourced garden at the rear with sufficient space to accommodate outdoor play.
The day to day
My team and I regularly research new learning opportunities and activities providing a variety of toys, equipment and resources in order to create a safe and stimulating environment for indoor play alongside learning opportunities appropriate to individual levels of development. The children regularly (daily) participate in a full range of fun activities including, Tots Tennis, Toddler Squad, Tots Tunes, Mini Mozart and Tip Toe Dance, as well as outing days to such locations as Willow Farm, Paradise Park, the London Aquarium, Aldermans country park, Highgate woods etc,
My experiences as a mother of four and a childminder of ten years have impressed on me the importance in any child's development of well managed and supported early transitions from home to the wider world and the interpersonal connections inherent in such transitions.
Many of the children have come by personal recommendation to spend these crucial early years here at Gladsmuir House. I believe the role of the parents in their children's happiness is central and with this in mind I liaise with parents daily, giving them updates via text messages, photo messaging, email and short videos of what their children have been doing. All activities are recorded in a profile book and this is open for parents to enjoy and make welcome contributions in their role as our partners in their child's well being during these early years outside the home.
From time to time I meet with parents to discuss their child's progress, a mini parents evening if you like which is thoroughly rewarding for both parties .

Our son spent 3.5 years with Jayne. His first session was shortly after his first birthday. He settled very easily, which we believe was in a large part due to the home from home setting that Jayne and her team provide. Jayne is so warm, caring and loving that it's like taking your child to spend the day with a family member.
Jayne also provides an incredible range of activities for the children, from theatre trips to fruit picking and visits to the zoo. We felt that she offered our son a more varied experience than he would have received at a typical nursery.
Jayne encouraged the children to share and be kind to each other, and our son has formed amazing friendships over the course of the last few years (we've met some lovely parents too).
She kept us updated on Peter's activities via Tapestry and was on hand to offer advice if every we needed it. We can't recommend Highgate Childminders highly enough if you are looking for a childcare solution that has a personal touch.
We sent our daughter to Jayne at 8 months old and only moved on when she was nearly two because we moved out of London. Our daughter settled quickly there and made friends that she still sees now that we have moved – the homely setting was the perfect way for her to feel secure and she was shown so much love and care by Jayne and the girls who looked after her to the extent that they felt like members of our family – we continue to miss them all a great deal. From the day our daughter arrived, each day was filled with different activities and most days there were visits to other playgroups, museums, parks, the zoo etc. The learning-based activities were fun and engaging for our daughter whether it was art projects, baking, water play, kinetic sand etc. We were given daily updates via Tapestry to record our daughter’s progress which was great particularly in the early days when we weren’t used to being away from each other during the day. She picked up essential life skills from Jayne and her team – they supported her with learning to eat with cutlery, learning to walk and talk, hold a pencil correctly, put her coat on herself etc. I am sure our daughter took her first steps at Jayne’s but they were very sensitive when reporting these milestones so that these key moments could still be enjoyed by us as a family. Our daughter grew very close to her key worker Livvie, it was clear how much they loved each other and she still talks about her now. Livvie was so brilliant with her, making every day full of fun but still being there for hugs and to support our daughter when she went through tricky phases. We really feel that our daughter could not have had a better start in life, the only trouble is that the bar has been set so high we are finding it very difficult to find anywhere that can offer her the same dedicated care and opportunities to learn and explore the world. If only all childcare was like this. We would absolutely recommend Jayne and her team to anyone.
My son went to Jayne's for a year and we're all sad to leave her and her fabulous team now that we are moving home. Jayne and the team provided the ideal setting for him to grow, learn, make friends, relax and have lots of fun! Jayne is truly a wonderful person, and she has gathered around her a team of dedicated, loving, energetic people who make childcare a stress-free and genuinely enjoyable experience for children (and parents!). Every day is a special day at Jayne's, with morning outings to playgroups, music and sports activities, museums and parks across North London and beyond. At drop-offs DS barely stops to wave goodbye - running straight in to join his little friends and excited about the day ahead. Jayne's two settings are beautiful homes with large gardens, and full of carefully chosen toys, books, and fun craft materials. As working parents, we are so happy we have found such a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment for our son - truly a home from home. Jayne and her fab team make it special for all the children every day. I can only imagine the hard work that goes in to make it all so perfect and cheerful!
What a fantastic find Jayne is! We simply cannot fault Jayne and her team at Highgate Childminders! How happy we are to have found such a warm, friendly and encouraging environment for our children. Our eldest was just 7 months when she started a half-day a week, I looked at numerous local nurseries and Highgate Childminders was the only place I felt truly comfortable with. It felt like we were leaving our daughter with a grandparent (which we would have liked to do if they didn't all live in Devon!) and we called Jayne "Granny Jayne", and it is this loving, caring place that our now 2 children have been attending for the last 2.5 years.
The whole team are truly incredible, they have a genuine affection for the children and our children have really developed in this nurturing and caring atmosphere. The activities are lovely - from taking the children to the Transport Museum on the tube to frequent visits to London Zoo, from strawberry picking in the summer to Halloween parties in the autumn, from growing butterflies from caterpillars in the garden to baking and cooking, from taking the children to plays and also additional activities lile tennis and Zip Zap. With the team that Jayne has it is between a Childminder and Nursery, all in a beautiful homely setting with a gorgeous garden. We could not have asked for a better place for our children to start off their early years. They have formed friendships with all the other little children and the parents are also friends and regularly get together - and we all rave about Jayne and how lucky we are to have found such an incredible, magical place for our children! We simply cannot recommend Jayne and her team highly enough!
We really can't recommend Jayne and her fabulous team enough. Our daughter has absolutely flourished under their care over the past 2 years and it is with great sadness that we are sending her to nursery this September- we wish we could keep her there forever! Jayne's 2 settings are large, spacious, clean and full of exciting activities for children of all ages to do. They do an impressive array of trips in the morning, ranging from fruit picking and forest school, to going to plays and the zoo. They also go to regular local groups and activities and have themes each term for the children to learn and develop with. The food is fresh, healthy and tasty. But most of all it is the kind, patient and nurturing approach of Jayne and her team we value the most; all the children there are absolutely lovely and my daughter has made a great group of friends, as have we with the other parents. We will miss you Jayne!
