Hello, my name is Ruth and my husband is Richard. I am a registered childminder and Richard is registered as my assistant. As such are inspected by Ofsted and are part of the Harrogate and District Childminding network.
We live with our children in a large farmhouse, only 10 minutes drive from the centre of Harrogate. Our farmhouse is set in 23 acres of grass land, which means we have lots of room for the children to run about and have fun.
We offer a home-based, safe, secure and stimulating environment which encourages the children to learn and develop. We spend at lot of our time outside, encouraging the children to enjoy all that nature can offer. We believe that children learn best when they have the freedom to explore and extend their own abilities.
We have lots of animals on the farm, including lambs, chicks, ducklings, piglets and calves, which the children will have the opportunity to experience if they wish. The animals, however, do not have access to the children’s play areas. The children have access to a large enclosed garden with lots of outdoor play equipment including a water play area, sandpit, digging pit, mud kitchen and playhouse.
Inside, the whole ground floor of our house is dedicated to childcare, with three rooms to play in and lots of toys to choose from and a large kitchen diner for the children to paint in and be creative.
We promote children's learning and development through play and activities tailored to their age and ability encouraging them to understand their environment and learn new social skills. We combine this with daily outings to the park, local soft play, toddler groups and simple walks to the local woodland area.
Ruth has experience with SEN children, especially children on the Autistic Spectrum and we take this in to consideration when planning activities, outings and meals. We try to keep a good routine for the children, this enables the children feel more secure and confident in the setting. We currently have a child who has English as a second language and work with the parents to develop language skills in both languages. We cover school pick ups from St Roberts Catholic Primary School and our opening hours are from 7am until 7pm, although extended hours can be arranged if required.
At Beckwith Childcare we work with parents to meet the needs of the individual child and monitor their progress in their individual folders following the framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. We share this information with parents regularly and have very good communication links with all of our parents. We will regularly email photographs of children to their parents and keep them updated with termly newsletters and reports on the progress of their child.
We aim to provide healthy, home cooked meals for the children and use food that has been raised and grown on our farm, be it potatoes the children have planted themselves to apples from our trees when possible.
I have over twenty years experience in childcare, experience with children with additional needs including Autism, ADHD and SEN. I have completed courses in childhood counselling and mental well being in young children

My twins are thrilled every single time they arrive with Ruth and Richard, and leave me without looking back because they know they have a fun day of activities ahead of them. Ruth gives them structured time where they are wholly occupied with games and learning geared towards their age, and plenty of outside play in the garden with all the toys. My children are very happy with Ruth and I would definitely recommend her as a first class childminder.
