About Me

My name is Maisie Ryan, I'm 25 years old and I am a fully qualified Norland nanny

Currently searching for a temporary/ ad hoc roles for travel aboard jobs to fit around my current role

My Experience

I am a dedicated and compassionate Norland Nanny. I value child centred learning through play and creating fun learning experiences in the outdoors. I was presented with the ‘Excellence during NQN award’ at my graduation ceremony and am proud to have been awarded a first class honours degree in Early Years Learning and Development.

Work Experience

November 2022 - Present - Nanny, 3 and 11 years
In this role, I have become a part of a blended family. The girls share a father but have their time equally spilt between him and their own separate mothers which has required me to work across three homes and has allowed me stretch and enhance my organisation and communication skills. This role has involved lots of travel to destinations such as Ibiza and the fathers second home in the Caribbean. Independently flying the girl to and from these countries and returning them home safely to their mothers, if Dad was required to stay out on business, has also been a great opportunity for me to boost my skills when travelling with children. Day to day life is filled with Nursery and school runs, play dates and cooking from fresh, providing the girls which nutritious meals and managing the food and shopping across the houses ensuring all ingredients and necessities are always stocked.

July 2020 - October 2022- Nanny, 2 and 5 years
In my role I have become fully immersed in family life. During the day, I create innovative learning through play activities for my two-year-old charge, and have prioritised creating a stable social environment for him, which has been especially important, as he was born during lockdown. I support my six year old charge with homework and organise after-school activities.I am a proficient diary manager organising play-dates, after school events and sports clubs. I cook fresh, nutritious meals for my charges in order to challenge their taste buds as well as batch cooking for the family freezer. I also complete PA duties for my employers such as organising birthday parties, booking appointments and classes for my charges. I also run elements of the household such as paying other weekly staff members, organising presents and cards for the extended family birthdays and other occasions. I began this role during lockdown completing many months of homeschooling with my five year old charge who had started reception. I taught all the primary subjects from maths and phonics to music and drama as well as teaching his whole year group of 60 children a PE lesson on zoom! When school reopened, I continued to support my charge with reading and other home learning activities. This job also allowed me the proxy parent whilst the parents were away in destinations such as Copenhagen and as well as travel with them on both skiing holidays and summer holidays to Italy.

My other job history has included being a cheerleading coach for 4 years, a party host at a soft play centre as well as working in a variety of schools and nurseries.

Personal

I have recently bought a flat in Bath with my boyfriend so weekends are spent decorating and renovating our first home. I am a qualified Sleep Practitioner and volunteer with The Sleep Charity supporting families with their children’s sleep difficulties. I enjoy travelling and holidays and spending time with friends and family.

Highlights of Placements Whilst Training at Norland

February 2020 - The Sleep Charity, Doncaster
During my week placement at The Sleep Charity I was lucky enough to spend a day in the sleep unit at Sheffield’s Children hospital. I observed the work they do within their sleep clinics as well as working closely with their sleep nurses and practitioners who are trained by The Sleep Charity. I gathered a huge amount of knowledge and resources from them which will help me when supporting families with any sleep issues in the future. When working with The Sleep Charity, I also sat in on three days of training that they were carrying out that provided with further knowledge. This also gave me the opportunity to complete the first half of my Sleep Practitioner training with them which I will be completing later in the year.

October 2019 - Maternity Ward, RUH Bath
I shadowed maternity care assistants, midwives and paediatricians within the ward. I assisted with weighing babies, including working out weight loss and completing red books. I also bathed babies, provided guidance to parents on bottle feeding and car seat fittings. I also worked well on my own initiative answering buzzers, cleaning beds and generally supporting parents on the ward. It was the most wonderful and rewarding experience.

April 2019 - June 2019 - Residential London placement, mix of sole & shared care of 2 boys aged 2 months and 2 years
I found this placement very rewarding and was able to use many skills I had learnt from my Norland Training. I did lots of batch cooking for the family including making meals for them for weekends when I wasn’t there. I created many activities for both children including messy play. I also introduced baking to the older child. We created pitta pizza, homemade cakes and he loved helping to coat the fish fingers I would make him. These children also loved outdoor, so often our lunches would turn to picnic. I also organised a picnic in the park for my Norland cohort which was a lovely day with 12 Nannies and 16 charges!

April 2019 - Daily placement with triplet boys aged 18 months.
This was a shared care role assisting the parents in cooking for the boys, playing and reading with them and taking them to sports like rugby tots. The family were sugar free, so I developed meals to accommodate this. We also took them on daily outings to play parks and shopping centres, a favourite moment was a trip on the Easter train which the boys thoroughly enjoyed.

Hobbies and Interests
In 2016 I spent the summer volunteering in Romania with disadvantaged, underprivileged and orphaned children which was an incredible experience. Since this time, I have developed a real love for travel and experiencing new cultures and traditions. In the summer of 2018 I travelled to Singapore, Australia and Thailand. Travel is definitely something that has challenged my outlook towards life as well as increased my confidence. I was able to successfully book and organise my entire trip independently; this trip also gave me more confidence when travelling through airports independently. Travel has allowed me to push myself into challenging and invaluable situations that have taken me out of my comfort zone.

As a working Mum, I needed someone who could commit to a number of dates and Maisie was extremely organised and willing to commit to set dates and was always reliable, punctual and responsive which has been massively appreciated. She was great with the kids and they have been very happy in her care. I would highly recommend Maisie.

My teething and at times clingy daughter, Ivy, immediately warmed to Maisie and her big smile. Maisie has a very warm
Energy and was very natural and knowledgable in looking after a young baby. She has lots of experience from her working days in a nursery and is quite accomplished when it comes to childcare experiences, even helping orphans in Eastern Europe! She was a real
Gem
Of a find and I’m sure she will excel
In her chosen career as a nanny. Highly recommended.
