. I have been in childcare for 28 years so have a lot of experience to draw on. The majority of this was in nursery a setting. I have been the named SENCO, at many of my past positions and have completed the basic SEND training.
I have worked with many SEN children over the years from nursery, preschool, EYFS, KS1 and KS2 with various conditions these include 4XY syndrome, Down Syndrome, DE Georges Syndrome, several of the Autistic spectrum disorders and Joubert syndrome.
I am qualified up to level 2 in Makaton and have a good working knowledge of it, I also have a good working knowledge of :- PODD communication, Colourful Symantecs, behaviour management and understand how important it is to have good, strong behaviour plans.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity of working with children with various conditions including Down syndrome, autistic spectrum disorders, De George’s syndrome, 4xy syndrome, ADHD, and others. Due to this, I have not only had to support with academic work but also with personal needs including toileting, dressing, feeding, and mobility. I have been required to liaise with other professionals, complete reports and attended meeting.
For the last 3 years, I have worked as an SEN LSA in a primary school working in EYFS, KS1, and KS2.
I am qualified in Makaton up to level 3 and additional, and have a good working knowledge of it. I also have a good working knowledge of Colourful Semantics, PODD communication, Espresso and Word. I can also use excel and Power Point to a reasonable level.
I work with children who are non-verbal, children with behaviour issues, and children of varying abilities and varying styles of learning within a school environment. I work under the direction of the teacher and the lead SENCO taking an active role in recording development, writing reports, preparing work and adapting work for the children that I am working with. These activities take place on either a 1 to 1 or small group basis in or outside the classroom. I also support the children in all other aspects of their day at school including all lessons, break time, lunchtime theme days and trips out.
As part of my role I take part in one-plan meetings ensuring that the child’s views are put forward and the child is given feedback on decisions in a way that they understand, I feed back to the teachers on the children’s progress to aid in the teachers writing reports.
I have led English, maths, and reading groups. Which at times, I have taken the lead in, using a variety of resources including interactive white board, IPad and laptops.
I have supervised groups of children in the ICT suit by the request of the teacher, and assisted them in their work on the computers.
I have also stepped up and taken the lead in class when the teacher was not present. I have done this in Maths, English, Music, and art using the teachers planning with other LSA’s in class to support me. Explaining to the children what they needed to do and supporting them during the lesson.
