My Requirements
We are looking for someone to support our 7 year old son as part of his EOTAS (Education other than at School) package. It is completely bespoke and flexible to meet his needs. It is not re-creating school at home.
R is autistic with a PDA profile, and has recently been diagnosed with Developmental CoOrdination Disorder (DCD/Dyspraxia) and hypermobility. We therefore require someone that has knowledge, understanding and experience of how this can sometimes have an effect emotionally and physically.
R's EOTAS package each week includes outdoor learning, 1:1 tuition with a specialist tutor, occupational therapy, physical education, and learning support. The full package is overseen by an independent SENCO who is in a position to provide support if needed.
This role will include supporting R to ensure that he continues to make meaningful progress both academically and personally in a child led way. You would need to ensure that his EHCP outcomes are achieved following his personal interests and play based learning style.
Your role would be:
* to work cohesively with R's specialist teacher with the development of literacy and numeracy skills at a pace that reduces anxiety and supports success.
* to support R to develop social and emotional skills. You would therefore need to be experienced in working with children with social communication difference, sensory differences and anxiety. You'll help to develop resilience, manage emotions and build positive relationships which will enable R to feel confident and better placed to engage in learning and daily life.
* to support R to access the community. This can include the typical aspects such as library, beach (sand and toy diggers), play park, soft play but also enrichment involving R's special interests such as farming – machinery and animals, steam trains and guinea pigs.
* to support R's sensory challenges by incorporating baking (he loves to bake a cake), gardening (growing fruits and vegetables for the guinea pigs) and other tactile/messy play.
* to complete half termly reports which demonstrate progress and link back to R's EHCP outcomes.
* to attend termly MDT meetings to support R's ongoing progress
Hours:
Either 9 hours per week, 52 weeks of the year
Or 12 hours per week, 39 weeks of the year, term time only.
