About Me
I currently work at Allerton High School in the SEND department but for the past 3 years I was working at John Jamieson Specialist school. I have been a SEN Support worker 1:1 with a Downs Syndrome child for 4 years and worked in a Primary school for 9 years. I have 2 children, 18 and 21 years old. I am Italian and lived in Rhodes for 20 years where I was a tutor at the Multi Cultural Language School. I am fluent in Greek and Italian. I have dedicated the past 10 years of my life to working to educate young children in all areas of KS1 and KS2.
My Experience
I have gained a deep insight into working with children that require a high level of support. I have developed strategies and skills whilst working with a child that has global development delay and autistic traits. I have worked towards breaking down the barriers to learning. I have tutored pupils working towards their SATS. I have experience with SEN and Down Syndrome in KS2, with mentoring, teaching, and carer for those who have challenging behaviour or complex learning difficulties. I worked as a Teaching Assistant in KS1 where I have gained valuable experience in regards to children’s early years of learning. I have gained a greater experience of different ways to teach, of different topics, using phonics, spelling, reading, literacy, and punctuation. I have been involved in all areas of the classroom activities. I have the patience, commitment and knowledge that support my understanding of how some children experience barriers to learning and how to support their needs. Being allowed and given the responsibility to do my own lesson plan has only furthered my knowledge in the classroom and the children’s needs. I was a voluntary board member at the Bi lingual school of Rhodes and this allowed me to participate in classroom planning and the organisation of activities. During my experience of 20 years in Greece, 12 years of this was spent working with or alongside children on a voluntary basis. I feel this has given me an added experience and understanding with children from different backgrounds and cultures.
