In brief about how I work: I plan effectively, understand and know how to engage and motivate learners, stretch and challenge them and am an expert at giving feedback and value equally the importance of receiving it.
Personal Description: I am a mother of three. I have been in teaching profession since my children were born. I coached them at home and gave them solid foundation in core subjects of Maths, English and Science at grass root level. My commitment and passion enabled them to bring great laurels in their education and working life. Teaching became a way of life and now a passion. Having had a wealth of experience in the education front I now see myself as a Special Educational Trainer known for my innovative educational techniques and passion for bettering children through education. I continue to aspire to make a significant contribution to the development of children and add value to their lives. All my senior positions have allowed me to instigate change where necessary to meet core curriculum requirements while still not distracting me from my core value of student interaction. My subject specialization is in Maths, English, Science, Study Skills, Basic Skills and helping students with Special Education Needs. And, Verbal and Non-verbal reasoning. Besides building mastery on academics, I understand that we are living at a time of an increasing pace and change of modern life. Equally, there is a lot of stress and frustration amongst pupils too. We are witnessing this right now. Over time, it can cause students to lose motivation which can lead to heightened anxiety, a lack of confidence and a negative attitude towards school and learning. In my lessons, I have a unique ability to pick up on this kind of behaviour. And, while teaching, I use my innate ability to build life skills: such as, aptitude and artistry to deal with stress and frustration without compromising on learning time. I have a proven track record of giving attention to detail and my goal is to meet and exceed the expectations of every parent/pupil. My work is of highest regal standards with quality maintained lesson after lesson.
Tutoring Experience: I gained my experience spanning over 30 years in varied practical roles in schools in around London. I have taught core subjects to ages 4 to 16 years. I ran a Kumon centre for over 10 years. Although I found great strengths of Kumon education but I thought it was too linear a programme and therefore children did not fully benefit from staying in it for years and years on end. I train children for verbal and non-verbal reasoning. As the 11+ exams are getting so competitive by the year, I have noticed parents are requesting for this training for their children as young as 7 or 8 years. I also home school children who do not attend their regular school; most of my home school students are those who are shy or withdrawn, highly gifted or those who just do better in a very small group size. I also visit families who have problems disciplining their children and mentor teens who have lost direction in life and just need someone to speak to.
Tutoring Approach: I regard my work as a vocation than a job. My practical expertise lies in providing skills to children and young adults to develop and achieve personal goals in their lives. It’s my desire to enable students to understand themselves and build self-awareness and ultimately recognise self worth. I realise the importance and feel passionate of developing other important skills, such as, being responsible for themselves, building good communication and being aware of personal, social and health education.
I am a pioneer in understanding and pinpointing the reasons behind poor performance/lack of motivation at school/college or in a work place. I know my time with my students is ultimately brief, so I try to make as much of a positive impact as possible through example and instruction. On those difficult days, it really helps to keep my mind geared toward the big picture of why I became a teacher in the first place. I position myself in a way that I only get the ‘best’ out of them. I believe one can always do better but I regard ‘effort’ as a stepping stone to the next. I am a strong believer in understanding the child/children as to ‘how’ they learn and ‘what’ motivates them. My theme of nurturing, engaging and challenge which runs parallel in my mind whilst working. I help to improve their confidence and concentration which in turn helps pupils’ performance.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY TO IMPROVE HANDWRITING
As an occupational therapist/teacher, I evaluate the underlying components that support a student's handwriting, such as muscle strength, endurance, coordination, and motor control. I correct children's awkward pencil grasp. I help to improve those muscles and finger skills needed to foster the correct pencil grip. If left unaddressed, pencil grip problems can end up affecting a child’s academic performance at school. And when children can see they’re not keeping up, it can lead to anxiety, frustration and low self-esteem, which can see them fall further behind. Pencil grippers are good but I think, a pencil grip is like taking an aspirin. It alleviates the symptoms while you are using it, but it does not fix the underlying problem, a weak hand. With a good foundation to build upon, developing the correct pencil grasp is much easier.
X - Students: Most of my current students are the children of students I have taught.
In my spare time, I do ballroom and latin dancing. Just like teaching, keeping fit is my priority. I also love writing. I published my first book in 2012 (pen name being Teren Hanz) and now am writing my second and third book simultaneously. I have inspired many young people to write. Some, as young as 10, are writing short stories hoping to publish, someday.

Our son is 7 year old autistic child and at the time of starting private tutoring with Ms Hans, we was about 2 years behind the school curriculum. Ms Hans was highly recommended to us and so we gave it a try. WOW what a difference.
He started seeing Ms Hans half way through his Y2 school year. Within 6 months he started to read and write.
4 & 1/2 of these months were during COVID so he was not at school and home learning was not really working. But he still achieved Y1 targets in this time.
Ms Hans works in alignment with the school curriculum and also knows a lot about autism and the complexities and behaviors this sometimes brings. This gave us much needed comfort. Her environment is calm, quiet and peaceful.
Ms Hans was able to work with him and implement functional processes and tools to help him focus and learn.
She is very professional and structured which was beneficial to him. She is easy to talk to and positive about him and his progress. Ms Hans adapts her learning approach and skills to suit the student and is happy to try new things. She keeps frequent and good communication with us so we can see his progress and achievements all the time.
We have, do and would definitely recommend Ms Hans.

Hi Paula, thank you so much for a lovely review. I am so glad that I could make a difference. In all honesty, your son worked extremely hard himself. He wanted to learn; his willingness and your support made a phenomenal difference. It was great working with you.
Ms Hans taught me through the 80's and 90's and now she is teaching my children who are 7 and 5. Due to the lockdown, I could not imagine stopping lessons and we have been doing zoom lessons. I was a bit worried about how a 5 year old will adjust to zoom lessons. But everything has been going really well. Ms Hans understands the psychology of a child; she is intitutive and positions herself to get the best out of a child. My kids have made great progress through their learning during lockdown in all their core subjects, maths, english and science. The resourses Ms Hans uses are effective to engage and challenge children. She is firm but fair; my kids are always looking forward to the lessons. Recently, she has been awarded Certificate of Excellence in teaching. I would add to it: if anybody is an architect of a private lesson, it is Ms Hans. I would recommended her wholeheartedly.
This testimonial is for Ms Hans who helped us with our 10 years old daughter. We contacted Ms Hans way back in Nov 2018 while we were looking for a specialist teacher to help our daughter in her academics (especially in Maths, English and creative writing) with not just by filling the gaps but also to install confidence to appear for 11plus exams. It was one of the best decisions we took in recent times – Ms Hans not only used the methodological approach to identify the areas of improvement in her but also came up with plan to overcome them, supported her, motivated her using various approaches and worked with her throughout the 16 months journey enabling her passing the exams of ALL three schools she appeared for. Ms Hans is a dedicated, committed and excellent teacher who knows the child psychology and we truly hope we have more such professionals around to bring positive change in children.
We chose Mrs Hans only going by the reviews and her background. It turned out to be a very good decision. Our 5/6 year old was struggling at school (late bloomer + young for his year + easily distracted), and was 'Working Behind' on most of the core areas. Since he started (now 5 months) we have seen not only good progress with both maths and English, but a continued interest in going to his lessons with Mrs Hans. he enjoys his learning, finds it fun and has become a proud learner and much more confident at school. He is still a little behind, but I think he has caught up on a lot of ground over summer and hopefully we will see him grow even more now that he is back at school. The things we like: topics are very closely aligned to curriculum so we recognise the topics when they appear in school homework, small amounts on each topic, good attention to detail in areas like handwriting - as a result he has received praise at school for his handwriting, fun approach to topics, allowing us to do numbers in the car (mentally). Things we are looking forward to: more independent approach to doing work at home (we hope this will come soon), catching up at school and even perhaps excelling in a few areas (giving him some well deserved confidence).
Ms Han has helped my kids enormously throughout the year. They have made dramatic progress. She knew how to set up teaching target to suit the children's special needs. She is very good at being strict as well as supportive. We strongly recommend her to all the prospective students. Thank you Ms Hans!
