About Me

The Nurture Room is a small high quality home from home nursery offering morning sessions (8am-1pm) during term time for children aged 2-5. The Nurture Room is run by Katie and Rosie, both qualified teachers having left senior positions in education to set up The Nurture Room. We aim to provide the highest quality care and education by basing our practice on three key principles.

RESEARCH INFORMED
We incorporate modern thinking about child development with a vast array of Early Years theorists and philosophies, such as The Montessori Method, Experiential Play, Forest School and Reggio Emilia, to inform our approach. This research tells us that children benefit from a range of educational experiences that include purposeful play based learning, adult initiated conversations and activities as well as supported group work. From this starting point, we work with each individual child to understand their interests and learning needs so that they can build their understanding of themselves and the world around them.

WELL QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED TEACHING STAFF
Our approach is built on having well qualified and experienced teachers caring for our children and families. Katie and Rosie are both qualified teachers and have come from senior positions in education.

NURTURING APPROACH WHICH IS SMALL AND PERSONABLE
At The Nurture Room we pride ourselves on being a small home from home nursery where every child is nurtured to reach their potential. This is centred on a welcoming and calm learning environment, underpinned by a low ratio of children to qualified teachers, and support for the whole family. We will work in a mixed age group environment as we believe that children learn from those who are older and younger than themselves.

We believe that this unique combination allows for a bespoke Early Years experience that supports a strong and happy start to a child’s education.

My Experience

Katie is a qualified teacher and has taught in schools across Warwickshire and Coventry. She has always been passionate about children’s early education and before training to become a teacher she worked in nurseries and schools whilst studying for an Early Years Education degree at Warwick University. Since becoming a teacher, Katie has taught, led and managed a range of Early Years and Primary School settings, most recently working as a Headteacher of a Warwickshire Primary School. Through all the knowledge gained during these experiences, and from having her own child, Katie knows the importance of Early Years Education and the role of parents during these fundamental years – she now wants to use her knowledge and skills to provide bespoke support to children and their families.

Rosie is also a qualified teacher having taught in London and Coventry. She trained through the Teach First programme, having completed a degree in Geography at Nottingham University. For the past few years, Rosie has been working at Teach First and most recently Ambition Institute thinking hard about how adults and children learn best and what this means for teachers. She has used this knowledge to develop national teacher training programmes for teachers new to the profession and also for those more experienced. She is now excited to put her thinking back into action through developing a high-quality nursery and family support.
