About Me
I am a STEM graduate and an enthusiastic and experienced educator, with a passion for making the biological world interesting and accessible to learners. I specialise in science tutoring, but would be more than happy to help out in a variety of subjects. Through roles taken up in my free time and working life, I have expanded my skills in verbal and written communication, adaptability and organisation. I relish problem-solving, diversity and forming relationships in my working environments. I am confident that my experience teaching and mentoring, dedication to making learning attainable for all, and enthusiasm working with young people, will make me a valuable tutor for your child.
My Experience
St Mary’s School, Henley-on-Thames (June 2012)
Worked as a teaching assistant for year 1 and reception, helping the children with their classes and ensuring the smooth running of their timetables.
Maidenhead Food Bank, Maidenhead (October 2013 – April 2014)
Provided entertainment and care for the children of families who came in. Tailored support and designed activities for families based on age – from colouring in, to ball games and talking with the children.
RSY Summer Camps, London (July 2014 – August 2014)
Acted as a camp leader and counsellor for 14–15-year-olds over a two-week residential summer camp. Provided support, companionship and mentoring for the camp goers.
Demonstrated teamwork and confidence in co-ordinating activities for the children. Communicated effectively and took personal initiative to inspire and enthuse the campers in participation.
Apprentice Food Grower; Sadeh Farm, Kent (March 2022 – October 2022)
Instructed and led practical sessions in the market-garden, ensuring the team of volunteers and students were informed and guided in completing work. Designed and executed exciting scientific and arts-based outdoor activities for young people of a variety of ages.
Demonstrated self-management and time-keeping skills in completing set tasks on my own, asking for help and clarification when needed and feeding back to senior staff. Designed sessions and led large teams working in the market garden on volunteer days, tailoring activities to the needs, interests and skills of the visitors.
Grower; Ampney Brook Farm, Cirencester (April 2023 - March 2024)
Managed the work set for a team of mixed abilities and experience, ensuring the staff members felt motivated, empowered and informed about the task at hand and the market garden as a whole. Delivered one-on-one and group training sessions - using discussion, practical demonstration and collective research to ensure each staff member’s training and understanding improved. Trained a 16-year-old horticultural apprentice in market gardening - observing his learning style and using patience, empathy and problem-solving to teach him.
