About Me
I’m ‘Mama’ to 4 bright, neurodivergent children in a home-educating household. Our home is creative and often lively, with a strong emphasis on connection, communication and emotional safety.
Myself and the children value kindness, humour and curiosity, and I try to meet challenges with flexibility rather than control. The children are thoughtful, individual people who do best in an environment where they feel understood and respected.
I’m very involved in creating a calm and supportive home, and I care deeply about the atmosphere we live in. Mutual respect matters to us, and we prioritise relationships over rigid rules. There’s a lot of conversation, plenty of creativity, and room for both calm and fun.
We’re not a perfectly quiet or polished household, but we are reflective, open-minded and grounded. Small, ordinary moments matter more to us than big performances, and we value people who are genuine and comfortable being themselves.
My Requirements
I’m looking for someone reliable, kind, patient and grounded. Ideally I’d like someone experienced with neurodivergent children, who can stay regulated when things are noisy, unpredictable or chaotic. A sense of humour and the ability to have a little fun are really important, as is being able to read subtle signals that children need help settling into a calm activity. Building trust with them is vital; connection works better than control in our house.
The role is less about ‘managing’ children and more about being a supportive presence — chatting, hanging out, helping with simple routines, food prep, making snacks, coming up with screen-free (and low-mess!) activities, and offering reassurance when needed.
We are a home educating family, so familiarity with that lifestyle is helpful, but I remain responsible for education and planning. Being reflective, respectful and open-minded is more important than ticking boxes.
At the moment I’m usually at home, and part of this phase is about the children building trust and connection. As bonds grow, the role is likely to become more independent.
If you’re someone who values communication, understands that flexibility goes both ways, and can bring both steadiness and lightness to a family setting — while using initiative to notice where help is needed — we might be a good fit.
I value good communication and mutual respect. My children are treated as equals in importance to adults. They’re given autonomy where possible and encouraged to be curious. They like to think they’re the real employers here, so trust and connection matter a great deal. I’d love to find someone who feels like part of the family, and I’m very open to discussing needs honestly to make sure it’s the right fit for everyone.
It is possible that in the future I may require someone for evenings or the odd overnight, but currently daytimes are what’s needed (within school hours) or perhaps the odd after school depending on what works. I need someone to work at times during the hours selected, but not every day selected. I will likely start with a few hours a week and increase if needed and within budget.
