My Summary
Nanny
About Me
I have been an Ofsted registered childminder for 18 years. I took a break this year for a few months and have now decided that I would like to offer a live-out nanny service. I was Ofsted rated Good with Outstanding in behaviour and attitudes and personal development in 2020. Caring for children is a vocation for me and the children who came here thrived and grew with loving support from me, in an extremely educational and natural environment.
The Early Years are so important for children, their outcomes and futures are dependent upon what happens in these formative years. I want all my children to have amazing outcomes and my experience and knowledge has grown in the years I have been childminding. It’s important to me that they have the best start in life and the skills to deal with the difficult world out there. The children who leave me are great at sharing and taking turns and being kind to each other, and especially to the smallest babies! They are confident and capable as they have a lot of freedom and guidance to become independent in a loving environment. I have 18 year olds who are still in contact and flourishing at University and I cannot put enough emphasis on how important these early years are. The EYFS standards that we all follow until children are 5 have the outcomes that I want my kids to have.
1. A strong sense of identity
2. Connection and contribution to their world
3. A strong sense of well-being
4. Confident and involved learners
5. Effective communicators
With these outcomes children have a great foundation to achieve good economic well-being and a sense of responsibility and caring for others.
I also worked as a part time nanny for Universal Aunts (London) in 1985 - working as a replacement nanny for nanny’s on leave, I did quite a few 2 week stints with families in London, and a couple where the parents went on holiday and left me in their home with their children.
My Experience
I have many years of both professional and personal experience with children from birth. I have two grown boys myself, and 2 granddaughters who I am very involved with. I have experience from newborn with both my own children, grandchildren and others. I took children from 3 months old in my childminding business, and am very experienced in setting routines, bottle feeding, breast feeding support, nutrition and weaning, potty training and support for mums. I love children and make quick and close connections - which help in establishing a trusting and loving interaction.
I am particularly good at helping children with various difficulties and instilling confidence and good routines.
My Qualifications
I have numerous childcare qualifications including training certificates.
I have many excellent references from the years of childminding, and parents who are happy to be contacted for further confirmation.
I hold valid Paediatric First Aid, and Safeguarding certificates.
I am fully DBS checked - rechecked in 2021 to stay up to date.
I am no longer registered with Ofsted.
My Availability
I am extremely flexible and open to discussion.

We met Susan in 2020 to help with childcare for our 2 year old son, from the moment we met her she was friendly, helpful and her warm personality assured us that our little one would be well looked after. Our son loved seeing Susan and always talked about her, the environment is very homely and there are so many nice activities for the children to keep them occupied, Susan will keep you fully updated throughout the day and is always their as a helping hand for guidance and advice if ever needed (she has a LOT of expertise). We still keep in touch and would not hesitate to send our second child also, you really will have a great experience if you choose Susan!
Sue was the childminder to both our daughter and son for 5 years. We could not have asked for someone better. She is the perfect mix of being loving, nurturing and firm with little kids. We wanted our kids to be in a home environment where they learn the right habits. It was great getting pictures of the kids throughout the day too which Sue is very good at sending. We would be waiting on our phone to see what she would be sending next. Sue has a great setting with a stunning garden that is like an adventure playground for the kids. My daughter is now 6 and son 4 and they both still go back during the holidays. If you are looking for a childminder Sue is renowned for being one of the best in potters bar so if there is space grab it!
Sue first cared for my son from 2017 just before he turned one and she now provides the same outstanding care to my daughter.
From the moment I met Sue and visited her home I knew it was the right environment. The environment it’s a home away from home and the choice of toys and stimulation is fantastic. The commitment Sue has shown to my children has just surpassed my expectations she knows and understands their needs and also how to nurture their skills and interests. Both of my children have been advanced with their speech and I have no doubt Sue had a big part to play in this. My son transitioned first to nursery and then now into school and he is happy and confident in these environments due to the start he had with Sue. I also can’t tell you what a relief it is to know as a busy working parent that my child gets home made nutritious meals and I don’t have the additional stress of doing pack lunch or trying to feed her late when I get home. My daughter was premature and struggled with eating, Sue really understood her needs and my anxieties as her parent and was so patient and supportive. They go outside every single day and I love seeing the pictures of them in the sun and the snow having lots of fun and learning about the world! I get very regular picture and text updates throughout the day and in person chats if and when we need them. I work in child protection and safeguarding so am very selective about who cares for my children - the care Sue provides my children is outstanding. I’m struggling to write this as I don’t think I’m doing Sue justice but there is no one else I would want to care for my children I feel very lucky that we found her!
Sue provides unparalleled childcare, we were so lucky to have found her . A home from home for our daughter who benefitted enormously in terms of their development and who was always so willingly dropped off which speaks volumes. Sue is an extremely committed professional, always giving children her full attention, treating the children with such care. Sue is always so kind, calm and patient with the children. The environment is amazing with great outdoor space and an abundance of toys and so many arts and crafts, Sue has arts and crafts afternoons and my daughter would make some fabulous creations. Sue has her own vegetable patch in the garden and encourages the children to get involved with outdoor play. Sue is able to talk easily to the parents and pass on anything she knows will interest or concern them - a skill sometimes overlooked in childcare. I would get regular updates throughout the day via text message with photos which meant so much to me and I believe to any mum returning to work. My daughter is now of school age and has left Sue's care but they remain friends and Megan, my daughter, still visits Sue as do I - she will remain a very important part of our lives and family. I strongly believe that my daughter has grown into a very well balanced and caring individual and part of this is down to Sue. I cannot recommend her highly enough, I cannot fault her in any way Sue is a rare find. My daughter adores Sue and still talks about her home-made pea soup which I still haven't mastered!
As soon as I met Sue at her home I knew it was the right environment for my son. He was less than 12 months when he went to her. It is a happy home, full of love. She makes wonderful home cooked food for the kids which was important to us. Love the fruit they get for morning snack. Sue is the very epitome of love, patience and nurture. When we had our second son, he joined his brother. We love dogs and welcomed them being part of the household. We were SO lucky to find her.
