I am married to Steve and have 2 adult daughters and 2 grandsons. I have been a registered childminder since1981 and have seen many changes over the years.I first registered with Social Services, saw the introduction of the Children Act and now am inspected by OFSTED. I was awarded a Good in my last inspection in March 2014. I am always willing to undertake any training offered to better my service which I do on a regular basis. I sit on the Local Advisory Board at Seaham Surestart, forging links with other childcare professionals in the area. I am very fit and active, walking everywhere and attending lots of different activities with the children in my care. I have a secure outdoor play area and local parks are within walking distance.
Find me in the yellow Pages business section under Gill Barnett.
As I have said, I have been registered since 1981 and was the first childminder in Seaham. I am now caring for the children of people I have known since their own childhood ! I am a member of a childminding network and have regular training sessions with them at our local SureStart Children's Centre . I attend a drop in meeting with other childminders from Seaham at the same SureStart facility. It is very good for the children to get to know other childminders and their children, as it is useful for holiday or sickness cover. I run a Mums and Toddlers group 3 mornings a week, and attend 2 other toddler groups on a regular basis, giving my youngsters valuable play and socialising opportunities.
I have 6 GCSE s in various subjects, including A* English, A Psychology and B Human Biology.
I have a NVQ level 3 Diploma in HomeBased Childcare.
I have a certificate in Playleading.
I am up to date with my First Aid for Children certificate and Safeguarding training.
I have numerous training certificates in many subjects such as Food Hygeine, Fire safety, Speech problems, Behaviour Management etc.
My premises have been successfully inspected by The Environmental Health Dept. Food Standards Agency.
I was invited to sit on the Local Advisory Board of SureStart Children's Centre alongside other childcare professionals and now enjoy this position.

Outstanding without a doubt!
Gill has cared for my daughter since October 2010, and it is with great regret that I will no longer be using Gill’s services from Feb 2012 due to moving area.
I was immediately put at ease about leaving my pride and joy with Gill having read through her Ofsted report as well as her own contractual terms and conditions. The personalised and caring nature of Gill shone through and I was happy to work with her.
As daunting as it is to leave a baby with anyone other than a family member, Gill put me at ease and I still felt part of Anna’s day due to Gill completing a diary of what she had done – food, trips, changes and naps etc.
Each morning Gill has toys set out with a different theme – farms, dolls, lego, colouring etc – which engages the children straight away – a good distraction ploy while parents sneak out – I only wish I could stay and play ïŒ
Anna has a better social life than myself whilst with Gill, with a range of toddler groups, trips and walks as well as indoor and outdoor play. As a result of Anna’s interaction with other children on a daily basis, she has developed very quickly in terms of her speech and understanding.
Gill ensures the children are felt cared for and it is reassuring to know and to have seen this. She has definitely made a number one fan out of Anna who adores her and asks, every time we jump in the car, ‘Gill’s today?’
Despite the new start that awaits me, I am extremely sad that the relationship between Anna and Gill will come to an end in its present form – but have every intention of returning to the area in school holidays for them both to have a ‘catch up’ .ïŠ Anna has developed into a wonderful, caring, often eccentric and definitely comedic young toddler and Gill has been a massive part of the amazing growth of my little person.
I cannot recommend this lady enough – there aren’t enough hours in the day or days in the week. Absolutely fantastic. So Gill – thank you x
