Hi! My name is Mel Stratton and I am an Outstanding childminder. I have been working as a childminder since 1998.I live in a large 4 bedroom house in the Putnoe area of Bedford. We have a large enclosed garden, accessed by a visual security gate, so I am aware of exactly who is accessing my setting at all times. This can be viewed from a screen inside the house. There is a large selection of outdoor toys including a wooden playhouse, cars, bikes, trikes, seesaw, beanbags, balls, scoops and balls, a garden size Connect 4, activity table etc..
I have a wealth of experience working with children and use this to provide a high standard of care, according to the EYFS Framework. I strive to offer experiences, activities and opportunities that provide the best possible learning outcomes for each individual child in my care, moving them on from where they are and adapting my practise according to how they choose to learn and achieve.
Alongside this, I make it a priority to communicate with parents, through daily discussion, diaries and shared planning. This ensures every child feels loved, valued, safe and secure- which is the best possible environment to have fun and promote effective learning and development.
We do lots of lovely activities, planned round a half termly theme, which cover the seven learning areas of the EYFS. These include art and craft activities, painting, sticking, cooking, visits to local parks, the library, singing and rhymes, musical instruments and movement, dance, imaginary play, sand, water, etc..We also visit a local playgroup and soft play area on a weekly basis. Your child will also have the opportunity to socialise in a smaller group of children of varying ages, building on their confidence, social skills and communication and language.
My setting is very flexible and full of fun, offering children a wide variety of play and learning opportunities I received an Oustanding ( in all areas) from OFSTED in March 2009 and in July 2015 (in all areas), reflecting the quality of childcare that I currently provide.
I am an N.N.E.B qualified Nursery Nurse and have experience in a variety of child care settings.I have worked as a Nanny and as a Nursery Nurse, in both Nurseries and Schools.I have been working as a Childminder for the last 18 years. I have also undertaken voluntary work to support children, as an Independent Visitor and am an active member of the Childminding Community Scheme.
I have experience of working with children with additional needs and am currently registered to care for up to two children overnight.

Our just turned 3 year old son recently spent 7 months f/t with Mel. From day one he absolutely loved going, adores Mel and was excited every morning about going to see her and his friends.
Mel is brilliant with kids, extremely trustworthy and provides a number of really fun activities such as crafting, baking, playing in the garden and trips to playgroup, soft play, the park etc. I was not looking forward to returning to work after a 2.5 year absence, but knowing my son was safe and happy at Mel's immediately put my mind at rest.
Our boy has never been a shrinking violet, but during his time with Mel his speech and
social skills came on leaps and bounds. He started nursery 3 weeks ago, and we have no doubt Mel played a huge part in giving him the confidence to fit straight in. Whilst he is excited about making new friends we as a family were all sad to leave Mel and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her.
I needed emergency care for my 2 year old and Mel was very accommodating and professional. My little one wouldn't stop talking about how much fun she had. I would definitely recommend Mel.
Our boys (5y and 3y) stayed with Mel for a short time, but I couldn’t wish for a better place to stay for them. We had to stop sending them to Mel only because our circumstances are about to change, we shall be moving in the near future.
Mel is professional and provides highest standards of care; amazingly flexible, open and very honest. I am really pleased to say that we were lucky to find her.
Mel is a brilliant childminder. I reached out to her on this website to see if she could look after my 4.5 year old for a few days when his school was yet to start and I had to work.
At short notice, Mel was very accommodating to us. My son had a lovely time at her house and Mel presented herself as a very welcoming and professional childminder with very high standards of the children in her care. I would definitely reach out to Mel in the future. He keeps asking when he can go back!
I would 100% recommend Mel as a childminder. She is so lovely. My daughter has been so happy since she has been going there in the school holidays. There's always the worry that each morning she could get upset because she doesn't want to leave home but since she's been going to Mel's, shes just been so excited and I don't have that trouble any more. The children there seem to have so much fun and my daughter tells me of all the things they have been doing during the day ?
