About Me

My name is Alya Lawrence and I work alongside my husband, Guy. We are a Husband and Wife Childminding team in Whitchurch, North Cardiff.

We are pleased to offer the 30 hours funding for 3 and 4 year olds from January 2019.

I am a CIW Registered Childminder and a member of PACEY. I am qualified in Paediatric First Aid, Basic Food Hygiene and Child Protection. I have a Level 3 Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development. I have a current CRB check. I have a degree in Psychology and a keen interest in child development. (I also have my NVQ 4 Registered Managers Award in Care & Support and a Diploma in Counselling from my previous employment.) I plan to undertake further training throughout the year to enable me to provide a high quality childcare service.

I am currently studying for a certificate in Educational Psychology.

I have 4 children of my own, who all attend full time school. I have a 4 bedroom, detached house with a large safe garden. I have a wide range of toys, games and resources to meet the needs of all children. I also make good use of community facilities such as local parks, playgroups, gymnastics clubs, music groups and libraries, as well as travelling further afield for trips and activities.

I am able to care for children of all ages, from all backgrounds and can offer care to those with additional needs. I am willing to complete any specific training required to enable me to care for children with individual health needs. I have recently completed training in Health & Safety, behaviour management, bullying, neglect, understanding and promoting emotional well being, and training specific to children with additional speech and language needs.

Prior to childminding I worked as a Support Team Manager, providing care and support to adults with learning disabilities. I am also a qualified counsellor.

During my spare time I play tennis at my local tennis club, I am an Assistant Scout Leader and Beaver Leader, and of course I enjoy spending time with my own family and four young children.

My husband Guy is my Childminding Assistant. He has a wealth of experience with babies and children, from raising his own children (providing much of the childcare at times while I worked) and working with children with special educational needs and autism. He is a friendly, relaxed and approachable person who relates very well to children of all ages. Guy has an up-to-date CRB check. He as completed Paediatric First Aid Training, Child Protection, Basic Food Hygiene, and Data Protection Training. He has also completed behaviour management training, and training specific to children with additional speech and language needs. He also has booked several additional training courses throughout the year, and is willing to undertake any specific training to enable him to care for any individual child.

We provide a wide range of activities both in and out of the house, and all activities are planned in order to promote all areas of child development.

Our usual hours of work are 7am-6pm Monday to Friday, although we may be able to offer additional hours depending on the needs of the family or child.

I am also available for evening and weekend babysitting.

We both thoroughly enjoy our roles as childcare providers, and we take our work very seriously, making every effort to provide the best possible standard of care, to each child we look after in our home.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you wish to discuss any childcare requirements that you may have.

My Experience

We have 4 children of our own so have plenty of experience with children! I have been a registered childminder since November 2012. My husband has started his post as childminding assistant 4 years ago. He also has experience working with children with additional educational needs and autism.

My Qualifications

I have completed the ICP course and am fully registered with the CIW. I have completed paediatric first aid training, basic food hygiene and child protection.

I have a Level 3 Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development.

I have a degree in Psychology, NVQ Level 4 (Registered Managers Award) in Care & Support, and a Diploma in Counselling.

I am currently studying for a certificate in Educational Psychology.

Guy has completed paediatric first aid training, child protection, data protection, positive behaviour management, speech and language development and food hygiene training.

We both have further training booked throught the oncoming year, and enjoy additional training that is relevant to out interests and that helps us to provide a higher standard of care to all children.

We have our two children with Alya & Guy and we have to say how happy we are with the loving, happy, family environment provided for them.

We were recommended by another family from the local primary school where our son had started nursery, we met Alya and Guy numerous times at the school and before they even knew we were looking for a childminder their friendly, happy approach to the children and families was easy to see.

My husband and I had our son in private nursery previously but had decided we would prefer a childminder as we were looking to start our 1 year old daughter and son together, it was the best decision as they have both settled and really enjoy their time with Alya & Guy.

They provide a lot of care and attention for all the children, homemade food, they are great with food as our children have cows milk intolerences, they have trips out and about and to classes. Our son has already made some lovely friends and very much looks forward to his days when he is with Alya, Guy and the other children. Our daughter can be quite clingy and they have shown so much love and patience we couldn’t be happier, they even helped with extra time to settle her in.

We would highly recommend anyone looking for a childminder to speak to Alya & Guy, we are very greatful for the recommendation given to us.

My youngest son has been going to Alya and Guy for over 3 years. Since the very first day he has loved going to their happy and loving home.
My eldest son went to a nursery and whilst overall he settled, I don't feel that he got the very best of care, so I wanted to try a childminder for my second child.
I knew from the first time I met Alya and Guy that they would provide the best of care.
Because they are a husband and wife team it really does feel like a 'home from home' setting, I feel like I am taking him to members of our family for the day.
Alya and Guy take their jobs seriously, they genuinely love and care for the children they look after and provide a secure and caring environment.
I love getting the pictures on what's app of my son on nature walks and at various clubs and classes.
Alya and Guy prepare healthy food and do lots of craft and pre-school activities with the children.
I have sometimes needed to take my son very early in the morning and also on occasions pick him up late due to work commitments and this has never been a problem. It is nice knowing that my son has been sat with their lovely family having dinner if I am late and not at all made to feel an inconvenience.
I would not hesitate to recommend Alya and Guy to anybody.
Alya is now a friend of our family and I feel lucky that my little boy has been part of such a loving and caring environment in his early years.

My son first started going to Alya & Guy 3 years ago, when he was two years old, and my daughter followed last year, when she was two. Both of my children have a fantastic time with Alya and Guy and settled in really quickly. We are in awe of the number and range of activities and outings that they organise for the kids, and love getting Whatsapp updates with photos of where they are and what they're doing. They provide good, nutritious food, including catering for my children's vegetarian diets with no issues. My daughter will eat food at Alya's that she won't touch in our house! Both children have developed strong friendships with the other children at Alya's and also love playing with some of Alya and Guy's own older children after school. Although they go out lots, when they are in the house, it offers a lovely big space for playing indoors as well as a garden stocked with toys (and guinea pigs!).

We are so glad to have found such fantastic childcare and couldn't recommend more highly.

My daughter has been going to Alya and Guy for just under a year, since she started nursery school. I was worried how she would adapt as previously attended Acorns nursery. Alya and Guy were so welcoming and did settling in sessions at no cost, which my daughter loved and didn’t want to leave.
Since then she has loved going there 3 days a week. I’m amazed at the variety of things they do. She loved shopping in the Chinese supermarket for Chinese New Year and eating the food for tea. They always encourage her to try new food and support her. Alya has a really calm way with the children and they all love her. The environment in the house is great with lots of toys and things to do. I have had such lovely craft items made for mother’s day etc.
Alya also keeps me updated on my daughter’s progress for example sending pictures when they are out on their various outings such as gymnastics club. I don’t know how they fit so much into a day!
Alya is well known at the school and has had high praise from the teachers. I could not recommend Alya and Guy enough and am so grateful I found them. They are also flexible and once my daughter starts school full time she will just go to them before and after school, which is such a help for me as I work long hours and can’t do school pick ups. Fantastic childminders.

We have been using Alya for childcare for our two boys since they were 9 months and 3 years old. Our eldest son previously attended a nursery, but when his little brother came along we needed to find something more flexible which would work for both. We came across Alya through recommendation from our local primary school, and I can honestly say it’s been the best childcare decision ever! When we met Alya, we immediately warmed to her, and all seemed ideal to us. Little did we know back then how much of a gem she would turn out to be!

Under her care, along with that of her husband and assistant Guy, our boys have blossomed. Alya exudes a calm competence and is extremely skilled in what she does, meaning the atmosphere is always relaxed, organised and the children are happy. They regularly go out to local groups and for nature walks which my boys love.

Alya and guy genuinely care for each individual child, and show such a high level of interest in each child. This warm, kind and careful concern comes so naturally to them and underpins everything they do. I would recommend them to anyone looking for childcare without hesitation!
