My Summary
About Me
Fun, caring and kind; these are the three words my family, friends and colleagues use to describe me. I’d also add spontaneous! My name is James, and I’m a qualified Primary School Teacher with over twenty years’ experience working with children of all ages.
Since 2004, I’ve worked full-time in Primary Education, and for the past three years I’ve been part-time while completing a Master’s degree. My career has taken me from Inner City Liverpool to the leafy suburbs, and even to opening an International School in Kenya. I’ve been privileged to work with children from 1 to 18 years old, giving me a strong understanding of child development and how to support children at every stage of their journey — both academically and emotionally.
When I’m tutoring, my priority is always to ensure children feel safe, happy and valued. I create a warm, nurturing environment with clear boundaries, encouraging good behaviour and tailoring my approach to suit each child’s individual needs.
I’m adaptable and energetic: I can get down on the floor for superhero play, structure it so learning happens naturally, lead a thoughtful circle time, or guide quiet reflection. Children need different kinds of engagement, and I enjoy bringing the right balance of fun and focus to each situation.
I know that choosing the right person to care for and support your children is an important and sometimes daunting decision. To make this process easier, I offer an initial telephone conversation so we can talk through your needs and expectations. If you’d like to proceed, we then meet in person to go over documentation, references and to get to know each other properly.
If you’re looking for someone experienced, reliable, and genuinely passionate about working with children, I’d be delighted to help your family.
Outside of work I enjoy reading, going to the theatre, cinema, cooking, exploring cities and places in the UK and abroad. However, I enjoy coffee and conversation the most – you can find me in one of Liverpool’s superb independent coffee shops!

James has been supporting our 8 year old who has learning difficulties since lock down began via Zoom. Most of the time he doesnt even realise that he is learning because he is having so much fun. However after only a short space of time we have seen a noticable improvement all round in his abilities. James is a genuinely lovely caring guy and it is fascinating to see how much education can be delivered remotely through the use of his clever IT skills and carefully planned use of online resources.
