About Us
We are a one form entry primary school for 5 - 11 year olds located in Warners End in Hemel Hempstead. We also have a nursery for 4 year olds which is open every morning. We are a ‘good’ school and we are working very hard to become outstanding. We believe passionately that every child deserves to have a worthwhile and exciting day at school. We underpin all learning with rigorous attention to the core skills of reading, writing, maths, scientific understanding and computing. However we also place a great emphasis on the enjoyment of learning and first hand experiences. We take a themed approach to ensure that Geography, History, Art and Design Technology are taught in a meaningful and practical way, often enhanced by visitors or trips.
We believe strongly in instilling in the children a love of learning. We teach the skills all children need to become independent, confident learners, equipped for whatever the future may hold. Behaviour at Micklem is good and we have an ethos that focuses on rewarding positive behaviour in class and around the school. Older children regularly work and play alongside younger pupils. Our younger children enjoy the activities Playground Buddies set up for them at lunchtime. Our School Council and Eco-committee focus on improving the school from the children’s point of view.
Our school grounds have recently been developed. We have a wonderful space for our Early Years children to learn in. Our school council in consultation with their classmates commissioned a landscape designer to renovate our wooded area and we now have paths to run around, a stile to climb and a pond to watch develop and grow. We recently updated our technology and we have a new wireless network, iPads and new laptops to support learning. We have a comprehensive programme of enrichment, which currently includes music, sport, dance, cooking, reading, and gardening.
Micklem has a real community feel to it. We provide many opportunities for parents to come into school through events such as assemblies, ‘learn with your child’, family learning and PTA events.
