About Us

Peel Park Primary School and Nursery opened in September 2005 as a Fresh Start school on the site of the former Undercliffe Primary School. The pupils all transferred to the new school. Almost all staff were appointed from the previous school after a selection process to ensure that the Governors’ vision statement and aims were translated into practice. The school building is, light, airy, well resourced and has extensive grounds, including a large Forest School. Two, two storey extensions have recently been added providing a third hall, library, new staffroom, committee meeting rooms, parents room and seven new classrooms. We have developed the site to provide school gardens, a pond and nature trails. We have grown in pupil numbers over the last six years and will be a complete three-form entry school from September 2015, with a total of 708 pupils on roll.

The Governors’ vision for the school is to create a culture of excellence, enjoyment and mutual respect for all within the school and in the community. The school aims to inspire independent learners who are creative, diverse, and well motivated; provide the highest standards of teaching for all children; to encourage high achievement in a secure and healthy environment; shape future citizens who, as good role models, will make a positive contribution; provide a broad and balanced curriculum that will provide a basis for learning throughout life; support pupils’ cultural moral and spiritual development and promote respect for the values, beliefs and cultures of others.

The intake reflects the local community, with 90% pupils from ethnic minority backgrounds. The school works closely with the community and we have our own Parental Involvement Worker; Community Involvement Worker and Family Support Worker. Behaviour is good and pupils are well motivated. Standards are rising year on year and standards at the end of Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 are set to be in-line with and above the national average in summer 2015.

Visitors comment on the calm atmosphere, although lessons are lively and the staff work together in close partnerships. There is a digital projector, interactive whiteboard and digital visualiser in every classroom, including the Nursery. Teachers and support staff have good knowledge of interactive teaching programs. All teachers have laptops for lesson planning and we have 6 laptop trolleys, each with 15 laptops for use in lessons. We also have several suites of Nintendo DS Lites, iPads and iPods for educational use. We encourage our staff to use up-to-date techniques and recent pedagogy to make our children’s learning as ‘hands on’, interesting and interactive as possible in order to maximise learning and encourage our pupils to take more responsibility for their life-long learning journey.
