Childminder in Brixton
My Summary
A Safe, Happy Place For Little Ones To Learn, Play & Grow
About Me
I am Sophia, an Ofsted registered childminder based in the vibrant community of Brixton. With a passion for early childhood development, I provide exceptional care for children from 6 months to primary school age in a warm and nurturing environment.
With many years of experience in childcare, I am dedicated to supporting the growth and well-being of every child in my care. I hold relevant qualifications in early childhood education and am committed to continuous professional development to stay updated with best practices in childcare.
**What I Offer: **
Safe and Stimulating Environment:
My home is equipped with child-friendly facilities and resources to create a safe, stimulating, and fun space for children to explore and learn.
Individualised Attention: With a low child-to-adult ratio, I provide personalised care and attention, ensuring each child's unique needs and interests are met.
I am committed to providing a fun, friendly and safe environment for the children in my care.
I endeavour to provide children with stimulating learning opportunities that reflect their age and stage of development through play and everyday experiences. I understand that each child is an individual and treat them with care, empathy and respect.
- Structured Daily Routine: A balanced mix of indoor and outdoor activities, including educational play, arts and crafts, storytelling, and outdoor adventures in nearby parks
-Weekly Spanish and French lessons : designed to foster language development from an early age, drawing on principles from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Learning new languages at a young age enhances cognitive abilities, improves memory, and fosters better problem-solving skills. Our approach integrates play-based learning, encouraging curiosity and confidence in communication through songs, stories, and interactive activities. These lessons not only help children develop listening and speaking skills in multiple languages but also promote cultural awareness, empathy, and social development, laying a strong foundation for future academic success.
- Healthy Meals and Snacks: Nutritious, home-cooked meals and snacks are provided, catering to any dietary requirements and preferences.
- Regular Progress Updates: I maintain open communication with parents, offering regular updates on their child's development and milestones.
I believe in working in partnership with parents; welcoming ideas and encouraging parents to provide me with comments and suggestions, we use Cradle app for daily diary and have set up WhatsApp groups with parents for effective communication.
I run my setting professionally, attending training opportunities, respecting confidentiality, keeping organised records in accordance with current guidelines.
I have clear policies and procedures; I am committed to providing a reliable service that parents can depend on and in which they can place their confidence.
Due to some unfortunate recent experiences involving inappropriate and concerning behaviour from parent, including actions intended to harm the reputation of my setting, I have reviewed and updated my safeguarding and admissions procedures.
Moving forward, I will require two character references from parents or guardians before confirming and accepting any childcare placement.
This measure is in place to ensure a safe, respectful, and professional environment for all children, families, and myself.
Home Visit Procedure:
Prior to the commencement of any childcare placement, I will conduct a home visit. This visit is an essential part of the onboarding and safeguarding process and is designed to:
• Meet the child within their own familiar environment
• Gain a holistic understanding of the child’s needs, routines, and wellbeing
• Establish a professional and trusting relationship with the family
• Ensure that expectations, standards, and values are clearly understood on both sides
This process reflects the high standards and professional ethos upheld by my setting and supports a smooth and secure transition into care.
Opening Hours:
My services are available Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, with flexible hours to accommodate different schedules.
Conveniently located in Brixton, my home is easily accessible by public transport and offers a welcoming environment for children to thrive.
I would love to discuss how I can support your family's childcare needs. Please feel free to reach out to me to arrange a visit or for any further information.

An amazing childcare setting where your child is actually at the centre of the support. Sophia and her team are very attentive to my daughter. Accommodating to any unexpected changes and my daughter’s development has been great!

We feel very lucky that Daisy Daycare had a space for our 4-year-old for after-school care. Our little girl is collected from school and is always happy to go there. She really enjoys her time with Sophia and her team, and it gives us such peace of mind knowing she is with such lovely, kind and caring people. We are very grateful and would highly recommend Sophia’s Daisy Daycare.

Initially we only wanted to put our son in care for a day or so, having seen how happy he is, he goes daily as he is thriving. Sophia and the team are great! Fast communication, accommodating to our needs as both my partner and my diaries change for work sometimes. He goes for trips and does lots of activities with daisy daycare. We also get picture updates which MAKE MY DAYs!! We are extremely happy with the care provided and could not recommend enough.

Really happy to have found Sophia. She and the team are great with our 9 month old who is happy to be dropped off there each morning and still happy when we pick him up in the evening. Sophia keeps us well updated and we really enjoy seeing the pictures of what he’s been up to each day. He’s also had allergies and Sophia has been able to accommodate these no problem.

My daughter has thrived under Sophia’s care. In a short time, her language has improved noticeably, and she enjoys a wonderful variety of activities and trips. Sophia consistently goes above and beyond, creating a nurturing and engaging environment where I feel completely at ease knowing my daughter is happy and well cared for. I couldn’t recommend her more highly!”

We couldn’t be happier with the care our son receives at Daisy Daycare. The staff take such wonderful care of him, and we’ve seen incredible development in his independence, speech, counting, and sharing. He even knows every action to every nursery rhyme, which is such a joy to see!
It’s clear that the team truly care for the children so beautifully. We’re always kept up to date with how his day has gone via the app, and we receive plenty of pictures and videos throughout the day, which is so reassuring. As the children get older, they make great use of the outdoor space and playground on the ground floor, which is fantastic.
The termly trips are amazing and really set Daisy Daycare apart. The team has taken our son to places like the London Aquarium, Vauxhall City Farm, and even the local fire station—experiences we really value.
The setting itself is always very clean and well-organised. Sophia regularly introduces new toys tailored to each child’s interests. For our son, this included a builder’s toolbox with wooden hammers and screws, which he absolutely loved.
Our son also eats very well at Sophia’s. The food is thoughtfully planned, homemade, and encourages healthy habits. He’s even learning to use cutlery from a very early age, which has been wonderful to see.
Another huge advantage is Sophia’s flexibility with days and drop-offs/pick-ups, which makes a big difference for our family.
Overall, we feel Daisy Daycare is a hidden gem, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to watch our little boy thrive there each day.

My daughters started at the beginning of the year and I couldn’t be happier with the care my children receive from Sophia and her staff. From the very beginning, she has been warm, welcoming, and incredibly professional, which instantly put us at ease. It’s clear how much she genuinely cares about the children in her care, treating them as individuals and supporting their development in such a thoughtful way.
My kids absolutely love spending time here they go 3 days a week 8-6pm and always come home happy, settled, and full of stories about their day. She provides a clean, safe, nurturing environment with a great balance of learning, play, and routine since starting they’ve been on lots of trips to. I’ve really noticed a positive difference in their confidence, social skills, and overall happiness since being in her care.
Communication has also been excellent—she keeps me updated regularly and is always approachable if I have any questions or concerns I message her throughout the day and she always responds and she sends me photos of what my girls are up to everyday to. Knowing my children are in such capable and caring hands gives me real peace of mind.
We would highly recommend her to any parent looking for a reliable, kind, and dedicated childminder.

I cannot believe what I have just read!
Is this the same child minder that my child with special /medical needs attend?
This is my story experience.
It was so difficult finding a place for my daughter with all the complications and difficulties she has, unable to sit, crawl stand, eat, respiratory issues NG feed, name it she had it. Disheartened was an understatement.
She was 10 months old.
I took her there just to see how she would react and wow she took to Sophia unlike anyone or anywhere else.
This gave me confidence as I watch the interaction. She told me she will be fine and explained her plan for her going forward.
We left with me feeling overjoyed and she smiling.
Yes, she caught colds but like any developing child and her with poor immune system I accept ed it for what it was.
She has thrived, she enjoys going there and miss it when she is not.
The staff there have worked so hard in giving her the care and support needed. From being unable to sit to now standing, crawling, speaking like a parrot. Using her arms to help feeding herself.
I can’t give them enough credit for all they have been and is doing for her. Without their support I would have been lost.
Sophia especially has supported and pointed me in the direction for help and support for her at home while she sought it for her during her care within her establishment.
Excellent support and care is an understatement.
Where I can honestly comment overall I provide them with her food and she is always fed unless she says no of which I am promptly informed.

Thank you so much for your kind words truly mean a lot.
As I always say, it is an absolute pleasure to care for your little Madam and to support her through her developmental milestones. Working alongside you, as well as other professionals, allows us to provide the very best care and support for her journey.
It is incredibly rewarding to watch her grow from strength to strength. By working closely with occupational therapists and speech and language specialists, and combining my own SENCo knowledge with the expertise of my team, we are able to support her individual needs in the most effective way.
This is what makes the setting it is today. We are deeply passionate about what we do and always strive to give our little ones the best possible future and opportunities for development.
Thank you again! I truly appreciate your review.
I did not want to leave a negative review, however after my experience I feel it is important to share, particularly for parents of children with additional or complex needs.
My son has significant medical and developmental needs, including a history of stroke, swallowing difficulties requiring thickened feeds, and airway conditions that require careful monitoring, especially when he is unwell. I made this clear prior to him attending, as consistency, communication, and attention to detail are essential for his safety and wellbeing.
I initially attended a short trial session and then enrolled him the following day. From the beginning of his first full day, I did not feel reassured. I was not greeted by the childminder directly, and instead an assistant collected my son from the front door. I was not invited into the setting, and the interaction felt very rushed. I was not asked detailed questions about his needs, routine, feeding requirements, or how to manage his condition. Given the level of care he requires, I would have expected a much more thorough introduction and handover. Instead, I found myself quickly explaining important information at the door, including his feeding and use of thickener.
During the day, communication was limited. I was contacted regarding his milk, however this highlighted to me that there had not been a proper opportunity to go through his feeding routine and requirements in detail beforehand. With a more thorough initial discussion, this confusion could have been avoided.
When I came to collect my son, he was handed over by a different staff member. There was no proactive or structured handover provided. When I asked about his day, I was told that she was not sure as she had only just come on shift and that I should contact the childminder directly. I found myself having to ask multiple questions just to get basic information. For a child with additional needs, I would expect a clear and informed handover at collection, and this was not provided.
I also experienced several issues with organisation and the handling of my son’s belongings. Items were not returned as expected, including feeding items and personal belongings. I had to request that staff go back and check for missing items. One dummy that was eventually returned to me was visibly unclean, with debris on it, and I had to ask for it to be washed before it could be given back. This raised concerns for me regarding hygiene and overall attention to detail. Another dummy was not located at all.
In addition, my son had been asleep for a significant portion of the session (approximately two hours) and was not offered his planned meal upon waking, despite this being included. As a result, he returned home hungry, which was not in line with the routine I had communicated.
For example, I received a message stating that he was not drinking his milk, but without any additional context or reassurance around how this would be managed. As a parent of a child with additional needs, I would have expected a more supportive and reassuring approach in communication.
Following his attendance, my son became unwell shortly afterwards. While I understand that illnesses can be picked up from many environments, this added to my overall concerns, particularly given the hygiene and organisational issues I experienced during his time at the setting.
Overall, the experience felt disorganised, rushed, and lacking in clear communication from the outset. I appreciate that settling-in periods can take time, however I believe that basic standards such as proper handover, organisation, hygiene, and communication should be consistent from day one. For children with additional needs, these are essential requirements, not optional.
To be fair, the provider did process my refund promptly and handled the cancellation professionally.
While this setting may be suitable for some families, based on my experience it did not provide the level of communication, organisation, and attention to detail that my child requires. I also felt the childminder was a bit more money driven than actually cared for my son. This was my experience. And it’s sad it put a bad taste in my mouth.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear that you feel this way about your experience.
I would like to clarify a few points to ensure a balanced and accurate picture. A two-hour settling-in session was arranged initially; however, you arrived approximately an hour late, which understandably shortened that session. You also expressed a preference to begin care immediately, which is why only one settling-in session took place.
We had a lengthy discussion at handover at settling in and you were adamant on start the following as a full day.
During your initial visit, I personally carried out the handover and we had a detailed discussion about your son’s needs. You were introduced to members of my team, and I explained clearly that I work alongside assistants, as outlined in my profile. At the times of drop-off and collection, I was managing scheduled nursery and school runs, but remained available by phone at all times.
Throughout your son’s time with us, we maintained communication, including updates and photos of him playing happily and settling in well. On his first full day, I contacted you regarding his milk, and we discussed his feeding. He enjoyed snacks, including fruit and yoghurt, and settled comfortably, including having a good nap, which aligned with the information you provided about his early start that day.
I also offered an additional meeting outside working hours to go through his feeding and care needs in more detail, to ensure we could provide the best possible support without compromising the care of the other children during operational hours.
In terms of hygiene, my setting is professionally cleaned daily, and you had previously commented positively on this during your visit. Regarding the dummy mentioned, your son did not use one during his time with us, and I reimbursed you as a gesture of goodwill.
It’s also important to note that payment for care was not made in advance as per policy until after the second day, and no concerns were raised with me prior to this point. Despite this, I processed your refund promptly and professionally upon your decision to withdraw.
I take all feedback seriously, particularly when it relates to children with additional needs, and my team and I always aim to provide a safe, caring, and supportive environment for every child.
I am disappointed that your experience did not meet your expectations, but I wish you and your son all the very best moving forward.
