Childminder in Luton (also available for babysitting)
My Summary
About Me
I am a friendly, caring, and highly experienced childminder registered with . In my most recent inspection in November 2024, I was proudly graded GOOD, reflecting my commitment to providing high-quality childcare in a nurturing and supportive environment.
With over 30 years of experience working with children across a wide range of settings, I have developed a strong understanding of child development and the importance of creating positive, trusting relationships with both children and their families. Supporting children’s growth, confidence, and wellbeing has always been my passion, and I take great pride in the role I play in their early years.
As a mother to an 18-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son, I bring both professional knowledge and personal experience into my setting. This allows me to create a warm, home-from-home environment where children feel safe, valued, and secure.
I offer a fun, stimulating, and inclusive environment where children are encouraged to explore, learn, and develop at their own individual pace. A wide variety of activities are provided daily, including arts and crafts, cooking, music and singing, messy play, and imaginative play. These activities are carefully planned to promote creativity, independence, and key developmental skills. Children also have free access to a range of construction and role-play resources to support their learning through play.
I regularly attend local toddler groups to support children’s social development and provide opportunities for them to build friendships and experience new environments. In addition, we make frequent visits to local parks and enjoy outings within the community, all of which are thoroughly risk assessed to ensure children’s safety at all times.
Within my setting, I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, ensuring that all activities and experiences support children’s learning and development across all areas. Each child under the age of five has an individual learning journey, where I record observations, track progress, and plan next steps tailored to their specific needs and interests. I strongly believe that every child is unique, and my approach reflects this by adapting to each child’s abilities and stage of development.
I maintain clear and consistent communication with parents through a daily diary, which includes details of activities, meals, sleep routines, and general wellbeing. This partnership approach ensures that parents are fully informed and involved in their child’s development. I am always available to discuss any concerns, share progress, and work collaboratively to support each child’s needs.
I am committed to continuous professional development and regularly update my training to ensure I provide the highest standard of care in line with current guidelines and best practice.
I offer funded childcare places for children aged 9 months, 2, 3, and 4 years.
If you would like to find out more or arrange a visit, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to the opportunity of working in partnership with you and supporting your child’s early learning journey.
My Experience
I have over 30 years of childcare experience, gained across a variety of professional settings, which has provided me with a strong foundation in supporting children’s learning and development.
I began my career working in nursery settings for four years, where I cared for children aged 0–5 years. In this role, I supported the delivery of a broad, engaging, and age-appropriate curriculum, helping children to develop key early skills through structured activities and play-based learning.
Following this, I worked as a nanny for 10 years, caring for four different families. This role required a high level of responsibility, flexibility, and trust. My duties included preparing healthy, home-cooked meals, planning and organising daily routines, and taking children on a variety of outings such as trips to farms, zoos, and local attractions. The families I worked with had busy professional lives, and they relied on me to provide consistent, dependable, and high-quality care. I approached each role with professionalism and dedication, ensuring that the individual needs of each child were always met.
For the past 14 years, I have been working as a childminder, a role which I truly love and feel is perfectly suited to me. Childminding allows me to combine all of my previous experience, alongside my own experiences as a parent, to provide a warm, nurturing, and personalised home-based environment. I am able to offer individualised care tailored to each child’s needs, supporting their development at their own pace.
Throughout all of my roles, I have remained committed to maintaining high standards of practice. I ensure that I keep up to date with all relevant policies, procedures, and legal requirements, implementing them effectively within my setting to provide a safe and secure environment for the children in my care.

Gemma came into our lives with my daughter when she was aged 1 she is now almost 18 and still remembers her days with Gemma, she not only built memories but friendships for life as she was taught how to socialise and manage relationships in a healthy way. It was a no-brainer when 7 years later I had my son who went to Gemma 4 days a week at 16 weeks old - going back to work is tough but I was lucky that I never had to worry about where he was or what he was doing as he was always looked after by Gemma as if he were her own…. I was always kept well informed and communication was easy, photographs of moneys in his day would make my day, He stayed with Gemma until he was almost 5 and starting primary school! Gemma teaches children so many skills from verbalising and communicating their feelings to arts/crafts and movement. I was always amazed at her imagination and focus on making every activity child-centered. Gemma’s ability to support the whole family is second to none, the setting is perfect as a home from home - comfortable and safe. Gemma strives to ensure every day is full but with a careful and consistent routine.
My children would not be the people they have become without Gemma’s love and influence - and I am forever grateful to her for that.

Gemma has been an absolutely outstanding childminder for my two boys. From the very beginning, she created a warm, safe, and nurturing environment where they both felt happy, secure, and excited to spend time. Her natural kindness, patience, and genuine care for children shine through in everything she does.
She is incredibly reliable, professional, and organised, always keeping us updated and making sure the boys’ needs are met. Gemma plans fun, engaging activities that have helped their confidence, social skills, and development, while also making every day enjoyable and stimulating.
What stands out most is the loving bond she has built with both of my boys. They are always happy to see her and come home full of stories about their day. It gives me complete peace of mind knowing they are in such capable and caring hands whilst I have to work.
I would highly recommend Gemma to any family looking for a trustworthy, dedicated, and truly exceptional childminder.
