About Me

My name is Sarah and I work alongside my husband Alan.

We have been childminding in March since 2003, which is something we started doing so we could care for our own 3 children, who have now moved on to higher education and are in the process of completing degrees at top institutions around the country.
As well as our own three children we also have five very friendly cats.

We feel every child deserves to be safe, to be loved, to have friends to play with, to have fun and learn new things, to eat healthy food and to live a balanced life.

A child's early years are the building blocks of life and we are committed to giving each child the individual attention that they need.

Leaving your child in the care of someone else is a difficult decision for any parent, but rest assured your child will be safe, well looked after, but most of all happy.

We are lucky enough to have enough space for a large dedicated playroom area and spacious back garden, with a range of areas and spaces to support outdoor play and learning. It is important that children get lots of opportunities to play outdoors and we go out in all weathers! We have a variety of equipment for all ages, so they can not only play and have fun, but they can also learn whilst doing it.

The youngest children are encouraged to learn through interesting and exciting play opportunities, planned to each child's individual needs and interests, helping their understanding of friendship, co operation, caring, sharing and fair play, working with parents is key to their learning and development.

We offer a unique environment for all the children to thrive. One of the main focuses of the play and learning is a connection with nature and the world around us; we do this by ensuring that the toys we provide are predominantly wooden and naturally made, as well as encouraging sustainability in that we continue to use many of the toys our own children grew up with. We use a lot of natural resources and encourage the children to explore them independently, nurturing natural curiosity.
A core focus for us, is enabling young children to be confident and independent taking responsibility for themselves, this primarily is done by giving the children time and space to learn new skills, it could be putting on their own shoes and coats, hanging up their own belongings, washing and drying hands, and promoting a gentle and caring temperament towards other people, animals and the environment.

Children learn by watching others and experiencing things for themselves, we try to provide opportunities for both.

As the children get older, their learning experiences become more structured and they will experience more focused opportunities, learning about numbers, letters and sounds, creativity and the world around them.

With a central and accessible location in the town, all our children attended All Saints Inter-Church Academy, and we continue to have strong links with both the the pre-school and the main school.

We are a car free family.

My Experience

Prior to starting my own family, I trained as an NNEB Qualified Nursery Nurse and have previously worked in Private Day Nurseries, after school clubs, and as a live in Nanny for a family in London.

I started childminding full-time in 2003 when my children were all still very small, with Alan joining me in 2004, which is when we became a partnership.

We have cared for over 200 children since that time at a range of ages, from very young 4 month olds to teenagers as after school care, and every age in-between. It is wonderful to have the little ones so young and see them go through all the years at school, and we take great pride in being able to get to know many families very well.

In the past we have cared for children in wheelchairs and children with additional needs such as Autism and Epilepsy, and we always ensure that we are able to accommodate all the children's individual needs in the best way we can.

My Qualifications

NNEB Diploma in Nursery Nursing, the equivalent of level 3 qualification.
We both hold current first aid and food hygiene certificates, which are updated every 3 years.
