Miranda
Childminder in Teignbridge District
My Summary
Home From Home Childcare That’s Always Out And About
About Me
Hello, I’m Miranda, an Ofsted-registered Childminder with a Good rating at my last inspection.
I’m a happily married mummy to two older children. Our home also includes a cat called Pepper and a puppy called Paddy. Paddy has his own outdoor space and only joins in with the children when everyone is happy and comfortable.
My setting is very much a home-from-home, where children feel safe, loved, and free to explore. We have a fully enclosed garden that we use all year round, and we spend lots of time outdoors whatever the weather! I love bringing the EYFS curriculum to life through hands-on, real-world experiences.
I’m a member of the Forest Childcare Association, hold an NVQ in Childcare, and have Makaton Levels 1 & 2, supporting communication and inclusion for all children.
We love getting out and about! We attend local toddler groups to build confidence and friendships, but we also enjoy our own adventures and trips with other childminders.
Some of our favourite outings include:
Exploring Haldon Forest, Mamhead and Stover Country Park (feeding ducks and pond dipping)
Adventures on Dartmoor, spotting ponies and cows and discovering fungi, flora and fauna
Playing in local parks, fields, forests and streams
We also enjoy visits to World of Country Life, Paignton Zoo, Pennywell Farm and Escot, and sometimes hop on a bus or train to the beach, which the children absolutely love! We do also occasionally venture further afield to places like the Donkey Sanctuary and Plymouth Aquarium.
Photos of our adventures are available below in the website section.
Rain doesn’t stop us! We pop on our wellies and waterproofs for muddy puddle jumping, or enjoy cosy indoor days with baking, messy play and creative crafts.
I have my own van, complete with business-use insurance and suitable car seats, and various prams so we can explore safely and comfortably.
My Experience
I am a warm, caring, and experienced childminder with over 20 years of experience working with children of all ages. I now specialise in caring for babies and young children from 1 month to school years, by providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where little ones can feel secure, valued, and confident to explore.
I hold a Childcare NVQ and am fully trained in Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding Children Level 3, Food Safety Level 2, and Speech & Language Therapy Practice (SLTP). I am also a member of the Forest Childcare Association and enjoy offering children regular opportunities for outdoor play and learning in all weathers.
I have experience supporting children with additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and I hold Level 1 and Level 2 Makaton training to help promote inclusive communication and support children’s individual needs.
Before becoming a childminder, I worked at Chudleigh’s local pre-school and Rising 5s, completed training and worked at Daisy Chain Nursery, and both worked and volunteered at the local primary school. This has given me a good understanding of early years development and how to support children as they grow and prepare for their next steps.
I am passionate about continuing professional development and regularly attend training courses to ensure my practice remains up to date and of a high standard. I work closely with parents, valuing open communication and partnership, to ensure each child receives consistent, loving care tailored to their individual needs and routines.
My aim is to provide a home-from-home environment where children feel happy, supported, and encouraged to develop at their own pace.
My Qualifications
I am fully qualified and trained to provide safe, loving, and attentive care, especially for babies and very young children. I hold Paediatric First Aid, an NVQ in Childcare, and an Introduction to Childcare Practice qualification, giving parents peace of mind that their child is in capable and knowledgeable hands.
I am trained in Safeguarding Children Level 3 and Food Safety, ensuring children’s wellbeing, health, and safety are always my highest priority. I also hold a Speech and Language Therapy diploma, which supports early communication and language development from a very young age.
I have completed AXs01 Introduction to Integrated Working and hold Makaton Level 1 and Level 2 training, allowing me to support children with different communication needs in an inclusive and understanding way.
I regularly attend training courses to keep my knowledge fully up to date with current legislation, guidance, and best practice, so parents can feel confident their baby is being cared for in a safe, nurturing, and well-informed environment.
