My Summary
About Me
I am a warm and friendly 27 year old fully qualified primary school teacher looking to make the jump out of mainstream education into more pastoral childcare and eventually play therapy.
I studied a degree in English for which I gained First class honours before I then went on to study my PGCE in Brighton.
My interests include music (I was in a regional orchestra and played the French Horn and Cello), cooking, climbing, yoga, cycling, walking, anything active, film photography, reading...I have a real passion for teaching children to read and to access the pleasure that books can provide. I have recently turned pescatarian and have really enjoyed experimenting with new flavours, although I am still very happy to cook and handle meat if you require it!
I am trustworthy and reliable and excited to make this step in the right direction for my continuing career working with children.
My Experience
Having worked as a teacher, I have experience across schools in Leeds working with children from 3 to 11 years in an educational setting. My lesson observations always came back as good, sometimes with outstanding features, for which my ability to build relationships with children and create a warm atmosphere in the classroom was always complimented. Whilst teaching was a great experience for me, it helped me to understand that I want to work with children on a more pastoral level as individuals, not only looking after their academic success, but more so their emotional and personal growth.
Furthermore, I have a sister who is 14 years younger than me. I spent a lot of my teenage years looking after her so have plenty of baby and toddler experience which I really enjoyed. I also spent a lot of my teenage years as a babysitter for family and friends so have experience with lots of different children and routines. As I have said, I want to retrain as a play therapist and feel that a nannying job would tie in excellently with this goal: I would still get to work with children which I love whilst part time studying (this would only be across 6 residential weekends out of a year so would cause minimal disruption to daily working patterns: the course is designed to fit around people who work full time).

My Availability
I am ideally looking for something for a September start, though I am available prior to this. I plan to be away for half of July and most of August working in Europe.
