Childminder in Wells - Rachel Gadd
I AM CURRENTLY NOT ABLE TO WORK OR OFFER MEETINGS FOR NEW BUSINESS DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS.
I live in Wells, Somerset and I have been working with young children and babies since 1988. I have recently had my 2nd Ofsted inspection since registering as a childminder in 2014 and received an overall grading of 'outstanding' in all areas.
I believe in providing security, a caring environment, meaningful play experiences and a relaxed, homely setting where children can have fun in their own, unique ways and progress at their own rate by taking part in activities they enjoy.
I have been living in Somerset since 1999 and live with my husband and teenage son, I like to be outside, particularly enjoying walks with my family and our lovely little dog, Clemo. I love reading and enjoy visiting my extended family back at home in Cornwall, where we tend to spend most of our holiday time on the beach (whatever the weather)!
The children I care for are offered a wide range of play and real-life experiences, including small world activities, arts and crafts, outside play, gardening, woodland walks and trips to the local parks, shops and local amenities. Trips to venues to support their learning will also be available throughout the year, maybe the zoo, the aquarium, the library, churches, and museums etc. I follow the Curiosity Approach and am a Forest Childcare provider.
Babies in my care are given ample opportunities to play, socialise, get plenty of fresh air and have loads of cuddles whenever they're needed! All pre-school aged children are offered activities to promote their continuing development - I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
School aged children in my care will be asked about their interests and activities will be offered to suit. Lego, crafts, board games, writing, homework and a little bit of after school TV having all been requested recently.
In the past I've worked as a private nanny, a nursery nurse, a nursery manager and a Pre-School manager. I have previously specialised in caring for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and have worked closely with other professionals in the sector to help provide appropriate care for those children.
I have also cared for children who are older and have developed a wonderful relationship with my now adult step-son.
I have always worked with children and for over 15 years before becoming a childminder I deputised and then managed Early Years settings in Truro (Cornwall), Shepton Mallet, Priddy and Wells, but now it's time for me to work for myself and share my experience and expertise with families in my own way. I can offer you a personal, trusting, supportive and friendly childcare experience that can often be lost in larger settings.
I gained an NNEB Certificate in Nursery Nursing qualification in June 1990 (level 3 equivalent).
I have attended many courses and training workshops during the course of my career and have a current Paediatric 1st Aid Certificate.
I have recently completed additional training courses as listed below:
* Paediatric 1st aid training
* Safeguarding: The designated role of the childminder
* The Clinical Psychology of children and Young People through Edinburgh University
*Exploring Play through Shefield University
*SCC Childminding Course

*Food Allergy training
*HENRY (Health, Exercise and Nutrician for the Really Young)
*Supporting Positive Bahaviour
*Opening Doors - supporting families with English as an additional language

I am a firm believer in keeping up-to-date with changes within the childcare sector and attend regular training courses and workshops to ensure I'm on the ball.
I am available for Early Years children from Wednesday to Friday inclusive from 8am to 5:30pm.
I provide school collections in Wells from St Joseph's & St Theresa's Catholic Primary school from 3pm to 5:30pm on Tuesdays to Thursdays inclusive.
I can also offer ad hoc weekend childcare and babysitting.

Rachel is a fantastic childminder. She plans her week with the children to ensure that they have fun filled and varied days and often with a theme that runs through the activities and crafts that they do.
She regularly meets with other childminders in the area so the children are socialising with more than just the ones in her care, and she takes them out most days to a toddler group, to the woods, park or soft play.
My son is always so happy to arrive at Rachel’s house in the morning- he trots off and is completely relaxed and at home there, he often cries and protests loudly when I come to take him home as he just wants to stay playing.
Her house is filled with interesting objects for the children to explore and to promote creative play and she comes up with fantastic, fun and creative activities that provoke their imagination and encourage learning.
Rachel’s family are lovely, friendly and very welcoming. They have a genuine interest in the children and I feel confident that when I drop my son off in the morning that he is being included in a very loving and caring family unit.

Thank you so much for such a lovely review! I've read it aloud to the family to share your views with them too. :-)
Rachel is amazing! My children love going with her and she often provides them with activities that are well thought out and delivered. It’s wonderful to feel like your children are okay and happy for someone to take them to school and help them start their day in a positive way, especially when you can’t. Highly recommend Rachel as her experience and knowledge are evident in the way she works with my children.
