About Me

My name is Helen and I am a Childminder with over thirty years’ experience, plus the experience of raising my own family of four.

I live in St Andrews in a spacious and well equipped house, less than a minutes walk from the lovely park, weather permitting we spend a lot of time there enjoying all that fresh air, though I also have a garden with a decking, area covered in impact matting to provide safe all-weather play.

I am OFSTED registered; my last OFSTED inspection resulted in a GOOD grading.
My favourite comment made by the OFSTED inspector in her report was
"Children laugh and delight in the childminder's company and clearly thrive from the careful attention both the childminder and her assistant lavish on them."

I live and work with my husband who is my OFSTED registered assistant, our aim together is to provide a warm and nurturing home-from-home experience and we pride ourselves on treating our little ones with the care we took with our own family. We are proud grandparents ourselves and I hope we treat the little ones in our care with the same attention and affection as we do our own family.

We like to work closely with parents and families to ensure a child’s transition to our care goes smoothly and we will maintain a close relationship with you so that our little ones feel comfortable both at home and with us.

We are happy to provide daily diaries and it's nice if parents become involved in these, sharing with us any details of the little one's progress outside of our setting so that we can help with interests and use them to engage with the child.

My Experience

At age eighteen, I was a nanny caring for newborn twins of my local GP.
By twenty I was married and had my first son, the within the next five years two more sons and a daughter, I always wanted a big family.

When my youngest was three I became a childminder and looked after a friend's little girl and since then haven't looked back.
I must have looked after, literally, hundreds of children over the years.

My own children are now all grown and flown but I love children and cannot imagine ever having a different job.

My "Assistant" husband come from another direction, he was an engineer for many years before taking redundancy, originally he was just going to help me for a few weeks before "getting a proper job" but ended up enjoying childminding so much more than any of his other jobs that he made it a permanent career move and has now worked with me for six years.

We are true team, we work well together and feel it’s nice for the children to have two of us to care for and play with them.
Excellent references available.

A recent inspection revealed both strengths and areas for improvement in a childcare setting. Close bonds with children and a focus on individual needs contribute to good progress in learning and communication skills. Effective safeguarding measures are in place. Areas for development include improving consistency in managing children's emotions and behavior, and minimizing distractions during activities. The overall rating across all areas is good.
