My Experience

I have worked with children since my NNEB qualification in 1983.Before that I often looked after younger children in my extended family.
I don't really see it as work because I enjoy children so much. I involve children in everything I do and am constantly talking with them.
Activities like play dough amongst others give a good opportunity for children to work out their frustrations by pounding the dough over and over. We make home made dough, it is fast and cheap and so much fun to make together.

I have worked for Education, Social Services and The NHS Trust. In my earlier days I worked as a child-minder, crèche worker, playschool assistant and a Supervisor of a Children's Centre in Germany where my then husband was in the British Army.
I have no preference over age, I love them all and I adapt well. I have experience with young babies. My daughter has a one year old and I have helped settle him into a routine and organised play activities with him.

I guess I am a child at heart when it comes to play. I am much a participant as they are when playing games such as 'Hide and Seek'.
I very much like being outdoors and believe there is so much that can be learnt from a walk in the park for example. We would collect fir cones and on reaching home we would make a collage with them. In our collage lots of different materials would be used and discussed.
I have an ability to refer to anything and everything in an educational way. There is always something that children can learn from what you do or where you go, what you see and feel.

I am a strong believer in getting the young to socialize in groups as soon as they can. Be it music groups, swimming, play groups, it doesn't matter. These are all opportunities to socialize.

I have decided that agency work for me is not working. Therefore I am available anytime day or night...
