About Me

I am a mature individual with 17years of childcare experience working full-time in a preschool setting in North London. I love working with children and would like to find extra work in the evenings, weekends and during school holidays. I am reliable, trustworthy, punctual and fun to be with. Being naturally conscientious, hardworking and energetic, I am also flexible, caring, creative, patient and easy going. I believe in working in partnership with parent(s) and child in order to meet the needs of individual child. It is only through this the child can be happy and achieve his/her full potential.
I also drive and have my own transport.

My Experience

Nannying Experience

Alongside my full-time job at the nursery school, I have held numerous nannying posts over the last 25 years. I have listed the current ones below as an example of my duties and what I bring to the role.

After school, weekend and school holiday Nanny, Dr Rohani Omar , Central London (June 2010 – Present)

Main Responsibilities:

• Sole charge of 4 boys (2 from birth) including one with learning difficulties.
• Working with the family on the developments of the children.
• Tutoring in various subjects including Maths, English and Mandarin.
• Help set guidelines to ensure good behaviour with the parents and training other members of staff to ensure there is a consistency in the upbringing of the boys in their daily routine.
• preparing the meals for the children to overcome their food “fads” and encourage them to try new ingredients.
• Ferrying the children to and from their weekend activities.
• Bathing and settling the boys down for bed.
• Light household duties when time allows.
• Travelling with the family to their country home.

I’ve worked with the Omar family nearly all the weekends and throughout the school holidays for over 12 years now. Over that time, I have helped raised their 4 boys, the eldest is now 15 and the youngest is now almost 6. They are now at an age where they do not need my input so much anymore, so I am looking for another family to work with full time rather than weekends and school holidays.
Over my time working with the family, even though on a weekly/monthly basis I probably see the children the least out of all the helpers, I played a lead role in their upbringing. With my years of experience working with children as a Montessori teacher, I was able to spot any potential problems early on and work with the parents and other helpers to circumvent them. I encouraged the boys to be involved in their daily activities and learning from a very early age. I believe this has helped to mould their personalities and helped them to become the balanced, independent beings that they are today.
On a day-to-day level, my duties included:
• Getting the children up in the morning, taking over the baby care (I work with 3 of the boys from when they were a few weeks old) and making their breakfast.
• In the early years when the boys were babies/younger (due to their close age gap there was at least a baby/infant/young toddler to look after for a lot of the 12 years) this also included: changing nappies, sterilising bottles, feeding of the baby/infant, preparing baby food from scratch, potty training, helping the mum going through the weaning process including introducing new food for the baby to explore and watching out for food allergies.
• When the boys were a bit older, my duties included getting them ready for outings and organising and taking the 4 boys out to the local park and outdoor activities.
• Organising fun and engaging activities for the children to encourage to actively learn and explore through play (the foundation of the Montessori education system).
• Encourage the boys to take an active role in tidying up after themselves.
• Preparing healthy snacks, baking and meals (with active help from the boys where possible) to encourage them to eat healthily rather than choose the fast food option.

After school childcare, Bardell family, North London (2016 to present)

I started working for the family (2 boys, the youngest of which as only 2 weeks old) 2 days per week for the first few years, now more on an ad hoc basis.

My duties were varied and included the following:
• School picks up.
• Arranging activities to entertain the boys including walks in the park, reading to them, and doing art and crafts activities.
• Cooking for the boys and getting them to help with the preparation of the meal (usually messy but fun occasion!).
• Encouraging the boys to tidy up after themselves as well as making time to talk and listen to them in allowing them to voice their thoughts.
• Bathing them and settling the boys down for bedtime with stories and plenty of hugs!
• Helping with light household duties when time allows.
• Feedback to parents on how the days or evenings went.

My Qualifications

I qualified as a nurse before going on to trained as a Postgraduate Montessori Teacher up to Primary school level in 1996. Since then I have worked in various settings. I have also kept up to date with various courses on Childcare training and have very good insight of the EYPS. I have also undertaken Makaton courses and passed my BSL stage 1. Other qualifications include fist aid training, special needs training and various other short courses. I am also CRB checked. I recently gained my Early Years Professional Status in May 2013.
