I'm Julie I’m a level 3 and 4 practitioner and i've been an Ofsted registered childminder for 24 years. I love my business, there is nothing more rewarding than playing a part in the care and learning journey of children and working closely with parents and carers.
I ensure my knowledge is kept fresh and up to date by regularly taking training courses to enhance my practice. I have an extensive Personal Development Portfolio that is available for prospective parents to view.

As a level 3 &4 childcare provider I take my role seriously and ensure that both children and their parents feel secure within my setting.
I keep up to date with all the changes that have take place within childcare and applaud the changes that have taken place with regards the importance of the emotional well being of all children.I aim to make a child and parent(s) feel that my home is welcoming ,somewhere they feel safe and cared about.We attend drop ins and local events,and have seasonal activities that help to teach whilst having fun. For example: each year we plant fruits and veggies and tend them until fruition,harvesting, cooking and eating.
I use baby massage as a soothing and relaxing technique that helps the settling in process for babies and builds a bond where they feel cared for.I also do an afternoon child yoga session that helps promote balance which is paramount to learning and also encourages a feeling of emotional wellness within the children. I have experience with new born children, twins and children with SEN.
I provide a safe and happy environment that encourages children to express themselves through play.I like time spent with books,rhyme time,musical play and sensory play,whilst also giving the children a variety of resources that cover all areas of learning.I encourage outside play,and messy play with a variety of mediums, and weather permitting there is free-flow from indoors to outdoors. We have an ever changing gallery that displays the children's art work.
There is a reading area that gives the children access to age appropriate books, and a mobile soft area to relax on.
My setting is a child friendly, home and garden that is risk assessed daily and I like to encourage free flow from home to outside space.We have messy play, water play, dens, discovery areas,play house, water wall, seesaw, cars, bikes, trikes,swings,play tunnels and ball pit all used in outside play.
We regularly attend drop ins, parks and local events throughout the year.We have trips out, nature hunts, trips to the parks, drop ins,library, farms, local events and places of interest.
I'm a great believer in healthy eating and like to encourage children to explore new flavours and textures.I like to encourage even the youngest of children to cook (messy but great fun) as it encourages them to try the fruits of their labour.we grow seasonal veggies which the children tend as well as pick and eat.this year we will be growing heritage tomatoes and peas.
Children are given opportunities to express themselves artistically,through a range of activities, painting,sticking, drawing, chalks, play-dough,and clay.We are currently exploring animals that hibernate. .
Each day includes a morning and afternoon story and rhyme time, sensory and musical play.Television doesn't play any part in our day to day routine and is an occasional treat.(were far too busy having fun).We also have a daily toddler yoga session to encourage children's balance and concentration.I have recently implemented a Music & Movement session each day, providing the children with scarves and space to explore their body movements whilst listening to music. it's proving to be very popular.
Each spring we plant our vegetables so the children can learn all about the growing process and it gives them an opportunity to tend the garden and veggies until fruition and cooking. This year we have grown peas and tomatoes. .
My childcare setting is run along the same lines as a nursery, with policies, procedures and risk assessments in place.
Each child has a daily contact book, a weekly diary sheet and I make a child scrapbook for the duration of their attendance. During settling in and first few months there are regular updates and photos shared with parents to ease any anxiety they may feel at leaving their child. I use individual tracking and planning for each child.However unlike a nursery my routines are more flexible and can be tailored to meet each child's individual needs, also as the key worker i am able to regularly provide both focused 1 on 1 time and group activities.
I have an assistant (my daughter)when needed to help on busy days and days out.
I also provide 2 year reports for health visitors, end of year reports and termly newsletters, transition reports and shared planning.
