About Me
***Fully funded places*** Funding is for 1140 hours per year! We are open 45 weeks of the year so offer 25 hours per week (equal to 5 sessions) funded care. Rowanberry Mini-Kindy is a Gilmerton based child-minding service greatly influenced by Steiner and Froebel principles, looking after children from the age of three years old (in some cases we offer care for children before their third birthday). You will often find us exploring nature, making crafts, singing and storytelling, baking and creating! Our days flow similar to that of a Steiner Kindergarten, but with a greater home-spun, family ethos – our children love to play together, and due to the smaller number of children in our care than in a nursery or kindergarten setting, they are well supported to build lasting friendship bonds.
UNFORTUNATELY WE NO LONGER OFFER SCHOOL PICK UPS OR AFTER SCHOOL CARE.
Our Mini-Kindy is run by a former Glasgow and Edinburgh Steiner school teacher, Sarah-Ann Askew, supported by four assistants, one of whom is Forest-School trained. Our setting is a family home and large yurt, complemented by front and back gardens, big sandpit, old fashioned water pump and home-made mud kitchen amongst other outdoor activities we offer. We are running focused Steiner morning sessions in the back-garden yurt, and forest school walks in the local woods. We spend a lot of time outside to get our children out in the fresh air every day. It is an integral part of our rhythm.
Our children are happy, and we're sure you will be too. We have limited spaces available, please inquire with notice of when you could come for a visit, the days and times you require childcare and required start date. Thank you!

My Experience
I have three children of my own (2 grown up and flown the nest) and began home educating my eldest, leading and hosting singing and crafting groups. I have been a Steiner class teacher and a Steiner parent and child group leader and have recently completed the Steiner Early Years training. I have been childminding for over 5 years and I am enjoying it very much!
My Qualifications
I have studied Steiner Class Teacher and Steiner Early years training. More recently I have studied the Froebel certificate at Edinburgh University. I have also completed the Steiner Kindergarten teacher training.

My Fees
- Childminding from £8.50 per hour
We charge £40 per half day session and £75 full day. Sessions run from 8am-1pm and 1pm-6pm, or a full day 8am-6pm (2 sessions) .This pricing reflects the quality of our learning materials and open ended toys, as well as our dedication to providing organic food wherever possible to our children.

My son was with Sarah-Ann and her team for approx a year, when he was aged 2-3 years. He had a fantastic time at Rowanberry Cottage, enjoying outdoor play, baking, stories and fun with friends. I would highly recommend this childcare to any parent. Sarah-Ann is so patient and caring with all the children in her care.

Thank you so much for your review Jenny. We definitely miss his big personality - it's strange in his absence, but we all really hope he is enjoying nursery! x
My daughter has been enjoying Sarah Ann care for more or less a year and we are really happy. There is plenty space for the children to play, lots of outdoor activities, books, music , storytelling... and the children really learn to enjoy each other company.
She is flexible and adaptable to my needs when something comes up and she is a totally reliable person for me. I absolutely recommend to any parent.
