My Summary
About Me
In my time since graduating with an Education degree from the University of Brighton, I have worked across SEN support roles in 1:1 home and group therapy settings, as well as mainstream and private education settings. This experience has led me to integrate positive approaches to behaviour management into my practice, while placing play and creativity at the heart of the relationships with the children I work with.
I enjoy being outside, art and building relationships with the children I work with, along with the creative problem solving that comes with the job. I'm interested in how art can serve as a tool to engage and communicate, and it has been woven into the support work I’ve done in the past.
In September I will be starting a Master's in Play Therapy, and am looking for lots of summer work before I begin study, when I will need to reduce my hours and/or keep them to specific days and weekends.
My Experience
I graduated Brighton University with a first-class honours BA in Education in 2019. Since then I have worked in various roles in home, school, group and 1:1 therapy and youth club settings, primarily with children with Autism. Throughout this work I have used models that prioritise free choice and self regulation.
I have experience as: an ABA Tutor; an Individual Needs' Assistant at Primary age; working with young people as a mentor; teaching classes of up to 30 students of a wide range of ages; supporting challenging behaviours in an SEN school; and babysitting, which is largely from my teenage years. I recently returned from New Zealand where I lived for two years and worked across hospitality and SEND support work both in homes as respite care and in school settings as a teaching assistant.
My Qualifications
I have 11 GCSEs at A*- C; an AS Level in English Literature (B); 3 A Levels in Philosophy (B), Psychology (C) and Fine Art (B); 1st Class Honours in BA Education; Team Teach Training (Positive Behaviour Support 12 hour); CPD safeguarding e-training; Understanding Autism (24 hour course from The Open University); Introduction to Sensory Integration e-learning.
My Availability
I am looking for work during the week and on weekends, on a part-time or full-time basis, and am open to a conversation about what works for everyone involved.
