About Us

Great and Small Forest School is a unique and wonderfully outdoor childcare provision following the forest school ethos based in private woodland just off Whalley Road where children have the freedom to learn through play and exploration. Children from age three upwards (no upper age limit) can register with our Ofsted rated OUTSTANDING forest school provision which operates term time, Wednesday to Friday from 9.00am to 3.00pm. Group sizes are small (between 8-10 children) and are led by at least two highly qualified and experienced childcare and forest school practitioners. Funded hours can be used to pay for the childcare along with tax free childcare and childcare vouchers schemes. There is an optional 'woodland care package' requested of £5.00 per session which helps us to take care of our woodland and provide various resources for our children to play and learn with. For those children who aren't able to use their funded hours entitlement, the cost is £32.00 per day with no 'woodland care package' payable.

Other services we offer include: holiday clubs during school holiday times (subject to Covid guidance), parent and child forest school sessions, home ed groups and accredited forest school training.

Absolutely outstanding forest school, carlton loves coming here to play with his friends and get very muddy. The staff are very nurturing and totally understand the children's needs and listen to them and follow their interests. Carlton always comes back exhausted with a massive smile on his face. When asked what he has done he always tells me everything. They also offer a weekly story time via zoom which as become a weekly stable in our home and missed when it's not on during the half terms. Carltons confidence has been developed massively and his love of the outdoors strengthen. Its a shame he going to school in September as he will miss his outdoor adventures with Lisa, matt and vicky. If you are looking for your child to learn and be nurtured whilst being in the great outdoors then look no further Highly recommend
