Jan worked as a full-time nanny for us from August 2016 – September 2018; when she started with us our son was 3 years and our daughter was 11 months old. During the time spent with us, Jan has proven to be very professional and talented in her job, as well as a very friendly, affectionate and responsible guardian and friend to our kids. Jan is very experienced with small children and always found age appropriate activities our kids to enjoyed. She always loved to sing, rhyme and play games with them and they had lots of fun with her! She is also very good with craft activities that helped our kids develop their skills. Moreover, Jan seemed to be genuinely interested in children development and took a lot of initiative to take kids to baby and toddler group activities. They also went for walks frequently and she managed to establish several contacts with other parents and toddlers in the neighborhood with whom they would meet up regularly and who became great friends with our kids. Sometimes they would also make day-trips, e.g. to a family parks for some cycling and scooter activities. Jan showed her utmost commitment and attendance during the period when Scotland was hit with the ‘Beast from the East’ in March 2018. She made it to work even when there were more than 1 feet of snow laying on ground. Me and my husband could not manage to go into work but Jan showed her commitment that even in a severe weather she tried her very best trekking through the snow getting herself to work. Jan prepared a healthy lunch daily with fresh ingredients and she is very good with baking, too. She would regularly bake sugar reduced muffins and cookies that the whole family enjoyed! Jan is also very experienced with challenging behavior; as a toddler, our kids could be difficult and demanding at times, but Jan always stayed calm, firm and consistent, and managed such situations very professionally so that they would calm down quickly. At the end of each day Jan would give us detailed reports to share her observations of the day with us. Jan has been a very compassionate and dedicated nanny and we value her contribution to our family very much. Our kids always looked forward to spend time with her and we think they benefitted a lot from being looked after by her during the past two years. We are very sad to let Jan go but we encourage Jan to further her studies.
