My Summary
About Me
Hi! I am Shayla and I am 25 years old. I have a level 3 diploma in Childcare and Education, and 8 years experience. I am interested in helping out families in need of a babysitter.
My Experience
Currently work at Little Ducklings Day Nursery as a Baby Room Leader and Assistant Deputy Manager.
Little Acorns Thornbury – September 2019 – May 2021 (Room Leader and Trainee Manager)
While at Little Acorns, I learned what it was like to be part of a management team and toddler room leader for a much bigger nursery then my previous one. I had been at a small nursery for a long time and was seeking a challenge of taking on a bigger occupancy of children and staff. This helped me strengthen my skills and capabilities on a larger scale. I worked with more professionals as a massive family under the Just Childcare chain of nurseries. We all work as one big team with our own individuality unique to our own nurseries. I also worked at Little Acorns during a worldwide pandemic. The decision was made to close my nursery and blend with other nurseries under the same company. I volunteered as the only member of staff from my nursery to work during this time. I took the children from my nursery who had key worker parents to a different Just childcare nursery (Flying Start Nursery). I worked there for two months supporting my children, their children and another nursery’s (Love Being Little Nursery) children through a pandemic. I had to work temporarily with a whole new blended team and build up some wonderful relationships with every one that worked during this time. I feel this strengthened not only my capabilities to work in a very strange time but who I was as a person. I was the toddler room leader and then moved to babies during my time there. As the Toddler room leader, I was in charge of 30+ toddlers, the key worker of up to 17 of them as well as in charge of up to 5 members of staff. I helped build and change the room from bright colours and plastic to a more natural, real world and heuristic play environment under the inspiration of the curiosity approach and in the moment planning. I really enjoyed having more space to be able to play with, both in and out, to support children’s interest and development. This continued as I went into the baby room which the capacity is a little smaller due to the nursery have two split baby rooms. I worked with the youngest babies in the nursery until they were steady walkers and ready to move down to the Baby Room 2. If you read below, I carried out all the job role requirements needed for the role while at Little acorns too. I have strong understanding of what it means to be a room leader, part of management and a team player within the nursery environment.
Sansway House Day Nursery – September 2014 – February 2015 (Student). June 2015 – September 2019 (Early Years Educator/Nursery Manager)
As a student:
Learned the settings routines and how it runs as a nursery.
worked alongside staff in planning activities and carrying them out.
Maintained professional relationships with children and staff.
As an Early year's educator:

As Baby room leader and then Toddler room leader:
I was in charge of the room from topics, displays, activities and running the room.
Worked closely with all the children under the age of 3, so I am very familiar with the development of the children within this age range and feel this is my strongest area.
I took over all toddlers completely and ran the room.
I feel very comfortable being a room leader in both rooms.
I was able to express many ideas and carry them out from a range of activities supporting all areas of development and ages between 3 months to under 3 years of age.
Creating and arranging an enabling environment both inside and out.
Putting effort into building/creating things and introducing ideas into the setting.
Supporting children with additional needs and working close with other agencies.
Carrying out training to support children’s language development and learning the best way to support children with additional needs for different agency and my own research.

Supported staff in shutting down the nursery.

Setting up show around of the nursery and starting new children at the setting.
Placing food orders weekly, ensuring food allergies and dietary requirements are met.
Creating, updating and carrying out risk assessments for everything such as; first aid, internal and external building, individual rooms, fire safety, intruder and Severn siren checks etc.
Updating policies and procedures for the whole nursery.

Dealing with Ofsted, Electrical testing, gas testing, Millie’s mark and food hygiene officers.
Invoicing, children’s and staff hours.
Recruiting staff, and being in charge of student and volunteers.
And many more day to day running of a setting.
Family Placement – Elizabeth Gregg (Student) March 2015 - June 2015
Whilst working at my family placement, I worked alongside the parents when taking care of their two sons. The eldest being 2 and half years old and the youngest being 8 months. I spent time one on one with the children building attachments and engaging in multiple activities with them. I also took care of them in meeting their self-care needs like bathing, changing nappies and clothes and helping the eldest potty train. I supported the parents in taking the children out to a variety of different places like playgroups, parks, shops and on day trips. I gained trust from the parents so that they felt comfortable with me looking after their children independently and keeping them safe.
My Qualifications
