About Me

My name is Joanne, and I have over 20 years' experience working in early years education. I hold a First Class Honours Degree in Early Childhood Education and have been graded Outstanding in each of my last four Ofsted inspections since 2008.

At Little Explorers, I provide a warm, welcoming home-from-home environment where children feel safe, secure and valued. My aim is to give every child the very best start in life by combining exceptional care with high-quality early education.

My curriculum is rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and informed by research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and wider evidence about how young children learn. It provides a carefully planned journey across all seven areas of learning, while remaining flexible enough to respond to each child's interests, ideas and stage of development.

Communication and language sit at the heart of everything we do because they underpin all future learning. Every day is filled with stories, songs, conversation and new vocabulary. Carefully chosen books often become the starting point for learning, leading to meaningful play, first-hand experiences and opportunities to explore the world around us.

Alongside this, children develop secure foundations in early literacy and mathematics through everyday experiences. Whether we are baking, gardening, building, exploring outdoors or enjoying imaginative play, children are developing the knowledge, confidence and thinking skills that will support them throughout their education.

The wider curriculum is equally important. Children develop physically through active play, creatively through art, music and role play, socially through warm relationships and shared experiences, and emotionally as they grow in confidence and independence. Every child is encouraged to be curious, ask questions, solve problems and enjoy discovering new things.

My curriculum provides a clear direction for learning, with important knowledge, vocabulary and experiences revisited over time. At the same time, every day remains responsive to the children. Careful observation and skilled in-the-moment teaching allow me to build on their interests and curiosity, ensuring learning remains purposeful, engaging and enjoyable.

I work closely with parents because every child is unique. By sharing ideas, celebrating achievements and supporting next steps together, we can give children the strongest possible foundations for the future.
