Good nanny but not very professional

Reviewed

Ingrid worked with us since 23 October 2020 - 6 Dec 2020, on weekends on an ad hoc basis. We hired her for our 14 month old toddler and because my wife is pregnant.

This is our individual review so might not be the same for everyone. We have worked with two maternity nurses before when our son was very little whom we met on childcare, so we have a good understanding on what to expect now.

Ingrid is a good nanny because she was very good at playing with our son, our son really enjoyed his time with her. She loves interacting with children, it’s clear. She also spoke in Spanish, so that was helpful for him as he goes to a bilingual nursery. She is good at following directions but needs to be shown and told what to do hence she is not very independent in that regard. For example she didn’t make lunches and waited for my wife to do it. She is good at housekeeping duties, kept the kitchen and play area tidy. She doesn’t have a strong paediatric knowledge or about children’s development/routine but once we told her, she was able to adapt. She is a good learner.

The issues with Ingrid are - she is not punctual, and has has cancelled on us at the last minute without prior notice or good reasons, leaving us with no childcare esp given my wife is pregnant. But she is generally a good hearted person, good at basic duties. For the rate she charges we were expecting her to be a bit more professional and pro active.

The bottom line is - She loves our son and I am sorry we aren’t working together anymore because of issues as stated above but I am confident she will be of great help to whoever she works with next.

We wish her all the luck!

Thanks for your review Nafih, but I will thank you if you can be honest and don’t try to put me down with yours words. As you really know, it’s not right all you have written here.
Your wife cancelled me all the time, she asked me to come full day or 7 hours and after some hours, she said oh sorry I won’t need you more time, I am going out or I do have an appointment or my family is coming to visit us, every different reason then finally I was no working the hours that we agreed. Most of the time she cancelled me on the same day so it was very unfair given me no enough notice. Because as you know as nanny I do plan my hours with every family so if you cancel me the same day, I lost my time when I could work with another family.

You know that happened all the weekends, and to be honest the only reason I didn’t decide to leave the job before, it was because I really loved to take care of your son.

About cooking, of course I do have experience lot of experience cooking for the children but all the time “your wife told me no to cook” because she wanted to prepare the meals for your son. That was her decision and I just respected what your wife wanted to do. I am the kind of person who respect what the parents tell me to do o no to do about their children.
I am always happy to cook for the children, as it’s part of my responsibilities as nanny.

I always do my best with every family and I did my best with you too but if your wife got upset because I decided to go out of London, I cannot do nothing about it. I think I have been very responsible and professional giving you two weeks notice before I leave the work and I didn’t repeat what you have done with me, giving no enough notice.

Thank you anyway, everything works for good so even my experience with your family, it has given me a good lesson to learn, because it’s no worthy to keep working, when I saw you have not been serious with the schedule and commitment that we made in the interview.
