Hi there, my name is Katie and I am an Ofsted registered childminder based in the Stoughton area of Guildford.
I offer a friendly, safe and homely environment for the children to play and learn. I have a range of resources to suit varying ages, these are freely accessible to the children, promoting independence and self confidence.
I am a firm believer in living for the moment, children's interests are often changing so I don't plan weeks and weeks in advance! I use my knowledge of the children's interests to scaffold and extend their leaning to ensure they are engaged and appropriately challenged. Our days are based around what the children would like to do there and then - if they are enjoying making cakes with playdough then we might pop to the shops to buy ingredients to make real cakes or if they are playing hide and seek at home we may go to the local woodland and play hide and seek behind the trees! When children are interested, they play; when they play, they are learning!!
One of the many things I love about being a childminder is the fact that the children and I get to explore the big, wide world. The children are learning everyday important life skills such as road safety and stranger danger. We get to practise using our manners when at the local shop buying guinea pig food - the children love helping to pay! We are regulars at our local woodland, the children often ask to visit as they enjoying watching the trains on the bridge. I have to say, visiting the woods is probably my favourite thing we do as each time we go we discover different things - one day it was lots and lots of caterpillars, another day it was lots of fallen trees. The weather doesn't stop us either, we wrap up warm and dry and go and explore! We went to look at the frost on the trees and ground - the children LOVED crunching on all the ice in the mud! We are very lucky to be able to use the woodlands as our classroom!!
I hope I have given you a little insight into my setting and what we get up to.

Not only do I have 2 children of my own, I have enjoyed a rewarding career in childcare for over 11 years; in this time I have cared for a vast number of children of varying ages, as a nanny, in a nursery and now as a childminder.

Katie is brilliant with the children. My little boy has flourished since being with Katie and felt right at home from day 1. He comes home and tells us about his day and often asks at the weekend when we go out "See Katie". His days are packed with adventure and learning, I especially love the fact they get to go out and explore outside whenever possible to new places something they wouldn't get to do at a nursery. Katie always has great ideas for things to do and make. We intend to stay with Katie as long as possible.
Katie is so caring, thoughtful and fun. She provides a safe and enjoyable environment for my children and creates a variety of age appropriate games and activities for them to get involved in each day. They look forward to seeing her each morning and getting stuck into what she has prepared for them to do. They often come home with craft creations and little projects that they have been working on for days, it is wonderful! She has an excellent relationship with my children and knows them inside and out, it puts my mind at ease to know that they are in safe hands and understands their ways. I feel very privileged that Katie is our childminder, and our boys are very lucky to spend time in her care.
My child loves going to Katie's. From day 1, he settled straight away and has just flourished being with her. Now he is talking, he always asks when can he go back. Katie is always planning activities to further the children and grow them. Katie is keen to know your child's like and dislikes, so she can get the best out of your child everyday and for your child to feel their best every day. I am keen to keep my child with Katie for as long as possible as he is learning great life skills with Katie as well as educational skills too.
