About Us

We welcome you and your child to a new adventure in your child’s life. At The Hillfoot Nursery, our aim is for your child to have fun and learn through play, whilst following the age-appropriate Curriculum. We use the Pre-Birth to Three Document, Curriculum for Excellence, Building the Ambition, GIRFEC and SHANARRI indicators to support children’s learning. We have a French teacher and Sports Coach for the 3-5 year olds. We have planned outings throughout the year which the children help to plan. We welcome all carers and visitors to support our planning of the curriculum, to give the children hands-on experience of skills for life and skills for work. There are three playrooms, all large and bright and a private, enclosed outside play area. We have the Cuddly Pandas Room, Little Monkeys Room and Clever Crocodiles Room.
Children can prepare for primary school by socialising with others in a safe, nurturing environment. We have close links with the local primary schools in East Dunbartonshire and every three and four year old is eligible for funding towards their education as we are in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council.
Children aged from 6 weeks to five years are welcome for full time or part time registration from a minimum of two sessions per week. When available, extra sessions can be given to those who are registered with the Nursery.
The Nursery is open on weekdays between 8 am and 6 pm. We close only for one week between Christmas and New Year – i.e. closing Christmas Eve and reopening on 3rd working day of January. There will be no charge when the Nursery is closed.
There is a wide range of activities in the Nursery to meet the individual needs of the children and to support the Curriculum. Activities include painting, sand play, water play, book corner, play dough, role play, sensory experiences and outdoor learning. Play clothes must be worn as some activities can be messy. Children should be equipped with appropriate outdoor clothes to allow activities in our secure outdoor play area in all weathers. The children are involved in a variety of activities to support our Eco Schools Programme including recycling, growing vegetables and Fair Trade.
We welcome external agencies to further support the children, staff and families if they have any individual support needs. Multidisciplinary working supports the collaborative ethos of the Nursery and ensures we fully support the children to reach their full potential.ildren.
