I’m Matt, an experienced and qualified nursery practitioner. I have a passion for a array of activities that are both outside and sports related including Skiing, Sailing and Cycling.
I have had a number of jobs since entering the working world. I started off as a qualified Lifeguard for a local leisure centre, where safety was my main priority for both children and adults. I then progressed from lifeguarding to become a water- sports instructor for a local company called ‘Rockley Watersports’. Where my prime focus was to deliver fun filled sessions that were both safe and educational. This was where I discovered my passion for working with children and decided to expand my experience and work with children under five within a nursery setting. I truly love this age as you watch them learn new skills everyday that will stick with them for the rest of their lives.
After proving my-self as a reliable part time member of staff, I was offered a full time position and the chance to complete my NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Education within the nursery setting. Whilst working in the Pre-School room I was assigned fifteen key children where I was responsible for tracking their development and incorporating the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) into all activities that I conducted. I supported children to achieve their early years outcomes and offer advice to parents on how to support their child’s development.
One of my key strengths is my ability to communicate with children, parents and other members of staff within a team. This is reinforced when I have to relay information to parents verbally about how their child/ children have been during their day at the nursery. As well as talking to parents face to face I also have to record ‘observations’ onto a software system called ‘Tapestry’. This links directly into the EYFS for the parents and nursery to track the child’s development.
I find that working with children requires a lot of patience, empathy, stamina and understanding of individual needs as each child is different and follows a different path. Whilst setting up activities for children it is vital that the activities set out for them to participate in are both safe and stimulating for the children within my care.
All in all I like to think of myself as a team player who enjoys the company of other people both at work and socially. I believe I am an approachable person who is sympathetic and caring towards both children and other members of staff. I enjoy taking on a new challenge and feel that I am a fast learner, I am used to meeting deadlines and feel that I do everything with enthusiasm and to the best of my ability.
As stated above I have experience working with children of all ages. I have also been a lifeguard for a leisure centre.
