My Summary
About Me
Hello, my name is Charlotte, and I am a highly experienced, OFSTED-registered childminder committed to providing a nurturing and enriching environment for children.
I live in the tranquil village of Kingsdown with my husband, Martin, our three wonderful children—Oscar (15), Matilda (12), and Betsy (10)—as well as our family dog Nancy and a small brood of chickens. These animals play an integral role in daily life at Charlotte’s House, contributing to a warm, nature-connected learning experience.
Our home, situated on a quiet road, offers generous indoor and outdoor spaces where children can play, explore, and grow. We make full use of our beautiful surroundings, frequently venturing on walks through the village, to the beach, nearby woods, parks, and local amenities. I also drive, enabling us to enjoy excursions to castles, nature reserves, playgroups, and other enriching destinations.
My practice is rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, and is further inspired by progressive pedagogies such as The Curiosity Approach and the principles of Hygge. I offer a thoughtfully curated selection of toys and activities that support children’s development across all domains, tailored to their individual interests and needs.
Above all, I believe that childminding should provide a home-from-home experience. I work closely with parents to ensure a strong sense of continuity between home and my setting, respecting family routines and values to create a consistent, comforting environment in which children feel secure, supported, and celebrated.
My Experience
During my time at university, I gained hands-on experience working in a variety of childcare settings, including an after-school club, a holiday club, and a nursery. I went on to complete a degree in Early Childhood Studies, which laid the foundation for my long-standing commitment to children's development and well-being.
Following my graduation, I spent six rewarding years as a shift leader in a residential children’s home, supporting young people with complex needs. After the birth of my son in 2010, I took on a role as a Year 6 teaching assistant, working one-to-one with a young person with autism at a local primary school—a role that deepened my understanding of inclusive education.
In 2011, I embarked on my journey as a childminder, and I haven’t looked back since. I am continually inspired by the way the children I care for become part of our extended family—some of the older ones even catch the bus back from secondary school to join us for dinner. The mixed age range within my setting fosters a wonderfully supportive dynamic, nurturing both confidence and social development.
In addition to childminding, I have recently worked with the Department for Education as a mentor on their COVID-19 recovery programme, providing guidance and support to other early years professionals during a critical period of rebuilding and resilience.
