Childminder in Dover
My Summary
About Me
***availability ***
Due to a change in circumstances for one of my existing families, I now a have rare vacancy for a 0-18 month old starting this coming September. The space is all year round (minus my 6 week holidays which you will always have plenty of notice for) full days Tuesday and Thursdays, 8am-5pm.
Hi, I’m Charlotte — an experienced, OFSTED-registered childminder based in the beautiful seaside village of Kingsdown.
I live with my husband Martin, our three children — Oscar, Matilda and Betsy — our dog Nancy, and a little flock of chickens who are very much part of everyday life here. Life at Charlotte’s House is busy, muddy, creative, outdoorsy and full of fun.
We’ve recently moved to a new home here in Kingsdown, where I now work from a purpose-built cabin designed especially for childminding. The space has been created to give children the freedom to move between indoors and outdoors throughout the day, follow their own interests, and learn naturally through play, exploration and curiosity.
My approach is very child-led, nurturing and rooted in a genuine home-from-home environment. Inspired by the EYFS, The Curiosity Approach and all things Hygge, I focus on creating calm, meaningful days where children feel safe, confident and completely themselves. Expect muddy puddles, beach walks, den building, stories, dancing in the kitchen and plenty of fresh air.
We spend lots of time out and about — exploring the beach, woods, parks and local village life — and I also drive, so we regularly head off on little adventures to castles, nature reserves, playgroups and other lovely places nearby.
I’m also slightly obsessed with 1950s fashion and music, so if you don’t want your child dancing to Elvis, playing in the mud, making potions in the garden and having an absolutely brilliant time… then I might not be the childminder for you.
But if you’re looking for a warm, relaxed, nurturing setting where children are encouraged to be curious, independent, outdoorsy and wonderfully carefree, you’ll fit right in here.
My Experience
During my time at university, I gained hands-on experience working in a variety of childcare settings, including an after-school club, a holiday club, and a nursery. I went on to complete a degree in Early Childhood Studies, which laid the foundation for my long-standing commitment to children's development and well-being.
Following my graduation, I spent six rewarding years as a shift leader in a residential children’s home, supporting young people with complex needs. After the birth of my son in 2010, I took on a role as a Year 6 teaching assistant, working one-to-one with a young person with autism at a local primary school—a role that deepened my understanding of inclusive education.
In 2011, I embarked on my journey as a childminder, and I haven’t looked back since. I am continually inspired by the way the children I care for become part of our extended family—some of the older ones even catch the bus back from secondary school to join us for dinner. The mixed age range within my setting fosters a wonderfully supportive dynamic, nurturing both confidence and social development.
In addition to childminding, I have recently worked with the Department for Education as a mentor on their COVID-19 recovery programme, providing guidance and support to other early years professionals during a critical period of rebuilding and resilience.
